Distributing the Test Run Work Between Multiple Users or Roles
Codebeamer uses a shared model of distributing the tests of a test run, which means that a run can be assigned to several users or roles. These assigned users can work on the same test run at the same time. The test runner automatically distributes the test cases of a test run to the users who work on them. The users do not get the same test case and do not overwrite each other’s changes, nor do they test the same thing twice.
If your test team needs more flexibility, you can choose to create multiple test runs for parallel testing of a test set.
The options to select this appears when creating a new test run are as follows:
Shared single Test Run—Creates one test run which is shared between the assigned users and roles.
Multiple Test Runs with Roles/Groups—Creates one test run for each user and role/group. The roles/groups are not expanded to individual members.
Multiple Test Runs with Users only—Creates one test run for each user, and for all members of the selected roles and groups.
For more information on the available options when creating test runs, see Options for Creating Test Runs.
The difference between the last two options is that the Multiple Test Runs with Users only option creates one test run for each user in the roles which may appear in the Assigned to field, while the Multiple test Runs with Roles/Groups option assigns the test runs to roles or groups.
For example, a test run is assigned to "bond and Tester"; where "bond" is an ordinary user, but Tester is a role with possibly several members in it, for example, Joe an Fred.
For the Multiple Test Runs with Users only option, the system creates three test runs: one for "bond", one for "Joe", and one for "Fred" as they are all in tester role.
The Multiple Test Runs with Roles/Groups option creates only two test runs: one assigned to the "bond" user, and a second that is assigned to the "Tester" role. This role is not expanded.
When Creating Multiple Test Runs with Multiple Test Configurations
If any of the multiple test runs options are selected and any of the multiple test configurations are also selected, Codebeamer creates one test run for all combinations of the assignees and test configurations.
For example, if five assignees are selected with three test configurations then Codebeamer creates a total of fifteen test runs: three test runs for each assignee, where each test run contains one of the three test configurations.
