Creating a New Project
To create a project you must be logged on to the server and you must have
Create Project group permissions (see
Managing Groups).
To create a new project:
1. On the
Projects tab, click

and select
New Project.
2. Click New Project in the top-left corner of the project browser.
An assistant guides you through several pages and options of creating a new project.
You can create a new default project, or copy or inherit many options from other existing template projects.

Creating Blank Projects
If you click Create a new project without selecting a template, the next dialog box opens, in which you can name your project.
Name | The name that uniquely identifies the project. |
Key | A short key that prefixes your project in the wiki links for easier identification. |
Creating Projects by Using Template Projects
Alternatively, you can choose to copy many options from an already-existing template project. You can do this by selecting one of the available templates in the Project Template list. After you select a template, the Select components to copy from project dialog box opens.
This dialog box has multiple options and artifacts that you can select to copy from the selected template project to the new project:
• Wiki Pages—Copies all the pages and their permissions from the template project.
• Documents—Copies top-level directories and their permission settings, excluding subdirectories and files, from the template project.
• Work items—Copies the tracker configurations and their layouts, permissions, workflow, and notification settings. If you select Work items, the copied trackers and their templates show no relation.
• Inherit—Copies all the trackers and their notification settings. Uses the layout, workflow, and permission settings from the original trackers of the template project.
| Inherit is available only after you select Work items, or Config Items, or both. |
This dialog box contains the many options and artifacts (tasks, bugs, requirements, and so on) which can be copied or inherited from the selected template project.
By carefully choosing between options, you can save a great amount of configuration work by copying or inheriting artifacts from the template project.
Creating Projects from Smart Templates
A smart template is a project template that contains predefined trackers, workflows, and documents. Codebeamer provides several smart templates that you can use to quickly set up an environment for evaluation purposes.
You can also create your own smart templates by exporting existing projects. This allows you to reuse your artifacts several times, even between different Codebeamerinstances.
To export a project, open the Admin page of the project and click Export under the General tab.
Final Steps: Adding Repositories to New Projects
You can create a new SCM (Git, Mercurial, or Subversion) repository in the new project. This is the same process as creating a new SCM repository, and it is optional during the project creation, because you can freely add new repositories at any time later.
