Reference Selector
This page briefly introduces the window used for selecting references and its basic functions.
When editing a reference field inline edit by double click Item Edit page, use the to open the reference.
The possible reference field types can be selected from the Datasource drop-down list on the Edit window:

Trackers
Work/Config items

Reference Selector of Work/Config items type fields
Functionalities
The reference for Work/Config items type reference fields includes additional functionalities, such as layout, filters and storable reference views.
To edit reference field of the tracker item click the .
The Reference Selector window layout can be dynamically adjusted in the following ways:
You can add, remove, and move columns.
Depending on the reference field configuration, filtering options may be available, such as group by and order by.
Reference Views
Reference views can be edited, deleted and saved as private or public views. Each reference field can have its own public views and private views.

The default view is displaying All Items.
The next time the reference selector window is opened for the same reference field, the recently visited filters and settings are pre-selected.
Display Public Views of Referenced Trackers
Public views of the referenced trackers can be displayed with the following limitations:
The public views of a referenced tracker are displayed if a tracker is selected as a referenced tracker for a field
The views tree structure is read-only. Views can be amended in the manage tracker views option.
This functionality is not available for reference fields of the release type.
Additional Functionalities
A warning is displayed when:
Pre-filters of the reference field are set such as Resolved, Close or , other custom filters.
Static/dynamic dependencies are present.
Reference Items Dialog
The reference items dialog that is used throughout Codebeamer for editing an item reference field has some differences depending on where they are used.
Select Releases fromCommon Reference Fields for filtering the tracker, above shown window opens.
Click the in the Work Items field to open the Choose Items window where further filters can be added.
The Filter by Name of Reference Items section is unchanged.
Exceptions
The reference items dialog is the same for most reference item fields, however, there are exceptions which are detailed in the following tables.

The dialog consists of the Advanced Settings section and the Work Items section.
The Advanced Settings is collapsed as the Project and the Tracker values are preselected but can be expanded and edited.
Children
The dialog consists of the Advanced Settings section and the Work Items section.
The Advanced Settings is collapsed as the Project and the Tracker are pre-selected but can be expanded and edited.
Downstream Reference To
The Advanced Settings section is expanded.
By default, the first project from the Recent Projects list is selected as the Project value, and its first tracker is selected as the Tracker value, The relevant Project and Tracker must be selected by the user.
The Suspected References filter is optional.
The Filter by Work Items section with the Work Items selector is collapsed, but can be expanded and edited.
The NOT option can be enabled.
Upstream Reference To
The Advanced Settings section is expanded as it has more importance in this case.
By default, the first project from the Recent Projects list is selected as the Project value, and its first tracker is selected as the Tracker value, The relevant Project and Tracker must be selected by the user.
The Suspected References filter is optional.
The Filter by Work Items section with the Work Items selector is collapsed, but can be expanded and edited.
The NOT option can be enabled.
Has Association To
The Advanced Settings option is expanded.
By default, the first project from the Recent Projects list is selected as the Project values, and its first tracker is selected as the Tracker values. The relevant Project and Tracker must be selected by the user.
The Suspected References filter is optional. Association Type is optional but its usage is recommended.
The Filter by Work Items section with the Work Items selector is collapsed, but can be expanded and edited.
The NOT and EMPTY options are not available on this dialog.
Reports and the Planner View also have exceptions, as described in the following table.

If the Tracker and a reference field is known, the Filter by Reference Itemssection is collapsed.
Planner View
If the Project and the Tracker filters are set to Any, the Filtering by Reference Items section is expanded.
By default, the first project from the Recent Projects list is selected as the Project value, and its first tracker is selected as the Tracker value. The relevant Project and Tracker must be selected by the user.
The Suspected References filter is optional.
The Work Items field is included in this section.
