Adding Windchill Part References
The PTC Server connection enables you to import Windchill Part attribute values into XML documents.
When you are connected to a PTC server, you can search for Windchill parts in Arbortext Editor and import their attribute values into XML documents.
This functionality is enabled only when all necessary configurations are in place. See
Enabling Windchill Part References for more information.
Use the following procedure to search for Windchill Parts and import their attribute values into your XML document.
1. In Arbortext Editor, choose > and connect to a PTC Server.
2. Open the XML document. This must be of a type for which an element is set up for part references in the .dcf.
3. Insert or select the element which is set up for part references.
4. Open the Modify Attributes dialog box.
5. Click
Modify Part Reference
icon.
6. In the Modify Attributes–Part Reference dialog box, click Search CMS.
7. In the Search dialog box, add relevant search criteria and click Search. The search results appear in the Modify Attributes–Part Reference dialog box.
8. Select the part that you want to add reference to and click Modify.
The logical id of the part is inserted into the modified attribute. When the document is uploaded to the server or checked in, the part attribute value is displayed as per the burst configuration.
If a version of the referenced part is in a workspace, then that version is used.
Note that only the PTC Server global attributes and PTC Server System attributes can be inserted into XML content. See
Assigning PTC Server Properties for a list of PTC Server System attributes.
