Standard Installation Procedure
To install the Arbortext Editor software:
1. Start the Arbortext Editorsetup program. Use the startup instructions that match your specific situation.
Installing from a release file downloaded from the support site:
Unzip the file containing the release to a temporary directory on your local system (for example, C:\Temp). Select Run from the Start menu, browse to the temporary directory where you unzipped the release and locate the \windows\EditorSetup.exe program.
Installing from a network server:
Select Run from the Start menu, browse to the network drive and locate the \windows\EditorSetup.exe program.
2. The setup program displays a welcome dialog box.
This dialog box provides an option to install PTC Creo View Express. The checkbox is selected by default. You can clear the checkbox if you do not want to install PTC Creo View Express.
Click Install to continue the installation.
3. The setup program prompts you to accept the license agreement.
The license agreement is presented in the language you choose for the installation. You have the option to view the license agreement in another language.
Click Accept to continue the installation.
4. The setup program prompts you for the products to install.
You can install one or more products at a time. If you select more than one product, they will all be installed in the same location. You can also indicate whether you would like to create desktop icons for the installed products.
Select the appropriate products and indicate whether you would like to create desktop icons for them, then click Next to continue the installation.
5. The setup program prompts you to choose whether to make an association for the following file types and your new Arbortext Editor installation:
Arbortext Command Language File (acl)
SGML Document (sgm)
XML Document (xml)
Doctype Configuration File (dcf)
PTC Arbortext Macro File (mcf)
FOSI Stylesheet (fos)
Styler Stylesheet (style)
DITA Documents (dita, ditamap, ditaval)
Select the appropriate file associations, then click Next to continue the installation.
6. The setup program prompts you to select one of the following setup types for your installation:
Typical — For an Arbortext Editor installation, installs the Technical Information Application and PTC Server connection features. For an Arbortext Editor with Styler installation, also installs the Print Composer and Web/Wireless Composer options.
Complete — All optional features will be installed.
Custom — Opens the Custom Setup dialog box, from which you can select the features you want to install.
The Custom Setup dialog box enables you to choose from the following product features:
The Core Editor feature installs core files required by Arbortext Editor, Arbortext Styler and Arbortext Architect. The Core Editor feature is mandatory for any installation.
The Print Composer feature installs the Arbortext Print Composer product option. This product option prepares your documents for print publishing and requires an additional license. Note that the Print Composer option is required to support Arbortext Publishing Engine publishing.
The Web/Wireless Composer feature installs the Arbortext Web/Wireless Composer product option. This product option requires an additional license.
The Technical Information Application feature installs the Technical Information Application. This application provides a set of DITA topics intended for use with the Windchill Service Information Manager solution.
The PTC Server connection feature installs the PTC Server connection. The PTC Server connection provides an interface between Arbortext Editor and either Arbortext Content Manager, Windchill PDMLink, or Windchill ProjectLink.
The PTC Arbortext IsoView feature installs PTC Arbortext IsoView product. It is selected by default. You can clear the selection if it is not required.
Select the appropriate setup type for your installation.
The Custom Setup dialog box allows you to specify an installation folder. You can accept the default location or click Browse to specify a different location. If you specify a non-existent folder, the setup program will create it for you. Specify the appropriate destination folder, then click Next to continue the installation.
7. The setup program asks whether you will be using the Arbortext Publishing Engine for document publishing. Check the box if you will be using Arbortext Publishing Engine. If so, you also have the option to enter the URL for your Arbortext PE server. It will have the following format:
http://servername:portnumber/e3/servlet/e3
Click Next to continue the installation.
8. The setup program indicates it is ready to install the program.
Click Install to continue the installation. The setup program displays the status of the installation.
9. The setup program indicates the setup is complete.
10. The setup provides an option to Run Java Selection dialog after setup . This opens the Java Selection Tool dialog box and allows you to specify the path of the Java Virtual Machine. Select the checkbox if you have installed Java on your system. If you have not already installed Java in your system, you can clear the selection and specify the JVM path after installation in the Tools > Administrative Tools > Change JVM Path.
11. Click Finish. The setup program indicates the installation is successfully completed.
