Columns Preferences
The
Columns category in the
Preferences dialog box enables you to configure how columns in
Column view are displayed. This preference category is available only when Column view is
configured in the document type configuration (
.dcf) file for your document type.
The Columns category provides the following options:
• Show, Hide, and Reorder Columns — Enables you to configure how columns are displayed in Column view.
This list contains all of the columns that are defined in the .dcf file for Column view. The columns are displayed in the order they will appear in Column view. An exception to this is the Outline column, which is always the first column. To change the order in which the columns are displayed, select the column and use the up and down arrow controls beside of the list to move the selected column up or down in the display order. You can also use drag and drop to move the selected column. You can use Ctrl+click to select multiple columns and move them in the same operation.
Next to each column is a check box that determines whether that column is displayed in Column view. Check the box to display the associated column. Uncheck the box to hide the associated column.
In addition to the columns, the list contains the Column view Scroll Boundary. The position of the scroll boundary in the column display order determines where columns scroll horizontally in Column view. Columns above the scroll boundary do not scroll. Columns below the scroll boundary do scroll. If you uncheck the scroll boundary, all of the columns will scroll. Note that the Outline column never scrolls.
• Show in First Column — Controls what text is displayed for elements in the Column view Outline column.
The first or Outline column displayed in Column view provides a structural view of the document. This preference determines the text displayed for elements in the structural view. Select one of the following options:
◦ Title, Inline Text, or Element Name — Displays either the text from a title attribute associated with the element, any text contained in the element (if there is no title), or the name of the element (if there is neither a title nor inline text).
◦ Element Name — Displays only the name of the element.
◦ Generated Text or Element name — Displays either any generated text for the element or the name of the element (if there is no generated text).
