Merging Data with Arbortext Editor
You can insert data from sources such as database, spreadsheets, web services, and so on into your documents. Once your site is configured for data merging, you insert a predefined data field or query from the Insert Markup dialog box. The data is merged into your document using namespaced markup. You can periodically update the query to ensure you are viewing and publishing the latest data.
A query result contains the data retrieved and a namespaced element surrounding the data, preserving the query information for later identification and update.
Queries are of two types:
Fielded queries — The query result contains one or more name and value pairs. Each pair can be inserted independently into various locations in a document.
Content queries — The query result is a data chunk which can be as simple as a string or as complex as an entire document. Often, as when a result is derived from executing a query against a database, the result will be in tabular form. The data merging framework enforces no limitations on the format of a query result.
