Pasting Cut or Copied Selections
After you have cut or copied a region of an equation, you can paste it elsewhere in the equation or into another equation. When pasted, the region appears in the place to which the marker is pointing. For example, if you paste a fraction into the element of a matrix, the fraction becomes a matrix element.
1. In the Equation Editor window, position the marker so that it points to the location where you want the region to appear. (The LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW keys change the direction where the marker will insert characters.) Make sure that the current structural context is appropriate.
2. Use any of the following methods to paste the contents of the paste buffer into your document.
a. choose Paste from the Equation Editor shortcut menu.
b. Press F2 to bring up the response panel. In the response panel entry field, enter paste, then click on OK.
c. If you have the default keyboard shortcuts, press CTRL +V.

The paste buffer is also used by two functions besides cut and copy. When you use either of the two functions listed below, you replace whatever was in the paste buffer before.
• The ENTER key, which divides the equation into two, puts everything after the marker in the paste buffer as well as on the next line.
• Join Row Below puts whatever is moved up to the previous line into the paste buffer.
If you have not cut or copied since doing one of these, your paste may insert text left over from the above actions.
