Adding Footnotes
Prerequisite: Arbortext XML DocBook document type
Footnotes appear at the bottom of the page on which the footnote is inserted.
Adding a footnote:
1. Type set smartinsert=on at the Arbortext Editor command line to turn on Smart Insert.
2. Place your cursor immediately after the text for which you want to create a footnote.
3. Click the Insert Markup toolbar button. The Insert Markup dialog box opens.
4. Select General as the Category.
5. Select footnote from the element list, and click OK to insert the footnote element.
6. Type your footnote text in the footnote element.
Adding additional references to a footnote:
Use this procedure if you want to add another reference to an existing footnote. Arbortext Editor only supports two references per footnote.
1. In the Document Map, click on the footnote element that you want to create another reference to.
2. Press CTRL+D to open the Modify Attributes dialog box. Make sure it is the dialog box for the footnote element. The element is shown in the left-hand corner of the dialog box.
3. Enter a unique identifier for this footnote in the id field.

The ID must begin with an alphabetic character.
4. Click OK.
5. Place your cursor where you want the additional footnote reference to appear in your document.
6. Click the Insert Markup toolbar button. The Insert Markup dialog box opens.
7. Select Reference as the Category.
8. Select footnoteref from the element list, and click OK. The Modify Attributes dialog box opens.
9. In the linkend field, enter the unique ID you assigned to your footnote, and click OK.
