DITAVAL Editor Dialog Box
The DITAVAL Editor dialog box enables you to create and edit a DITAVAL file outside of the Arbortext Editor window. When editing a DITA topic or map, you can open the DITAVAL Editor by choosing either Edit > Profiling > Create DITAVAL File or Edit DITAVAL File. When editing a DITAVAL file, you can open the dialog by choosing Tools > Edit in Dialog.
When you open the DITAVAL Editor from a DITAVAL file, the interface is somewhat different. The Save and Preview buttons are not available. Also, you cannot use the Arbortext Editor window containing the DITAVAL file. To work with the dialog in this case, you make the changes desired, close the dialog, and save the DITAVAL file in Arbortext Editor. To preview the DITAVAL file, you choose Tools > Test with File and select a file to open in the DITAVAL Preview Window.
When opened from DITA topic or map, the Save and Preview buttons are available. In this case, you can use the DITAVAL Editor independently from the Arbortext Editor window.
The DITAVAL Editor dialog box contains the following options:
Tree control — Enables you to work with conditional processing attributes and values.
The DITAVAL Editor tree control lists the attributes and values defined in the current DITAVAL file and how they are to be processed. At the top of the control is the (global default) where you can set a default processing action for the entire file. After that is the list of attributes and values. For each attribute, there is also a (default) node where you can set a default action for just that attribute.
For the defaults and the attribute values, the control provides the following icons to indicate the currently assigned processing action:
This is an image of a green checkmark. — Include in processing.
This is an image of a white checkmark. — Include by default in processing.
For this and other actions done by default, no explicit action is set for the attribute and the default action is provided by an explicitly set action higher in the tree.
This is an image of a red circle with a slash through it. — Exclude from processing.
This is an image of a light red circle with a slash through it. — Exclude by default from processing.
This is an image of a blue flag. — Flag in processing.
This is an image of a light blue flag. — Flag by default in processing.
The tree control contains the following buttons:
Add — Provides the following menu choices:
Add Attribute — Opens the Add Attribute window, where you can enter an attribute to add to the DITAVAL file in the New Attribute option.
Add Value for “attribute — Opens the Add Value for “attribute window, where you can enter a new value to add to the currently selected attribute in the Value. option.
This choice is only available when an attribute or attribute value is selected in the tree control.
Remove — Deletes the currently selected attribute or attribute value from the DITAVAL file.
You are prompted to confirm the deletion. This choice is only available when an attribute or attribute value is selected in the tree control.
The tree control also provides the following shortcut menu:
Add Attribute — Opens the Add Attribute window, where you can enter an attribute to add to the DITAVAL file in the New Attribute option.
Add Value for “attribute — Opens the Add Value for “attribute window, where you can enter a new value to add to the currently selected attribute in the Value option.
This choice is only available when an attribute or attribute value is selected in the tree control.
Remove — Deletes the currently selected attribute or attribute value from the DITAVAL file.
You are prompted to confirm the deletion. This choice is only available when an attribute or attribute value is selected in the tree control.
Action — Enables you to assign either a default action or an action to an attribute value.
You can select from the following actions:
Use Default — Removes any existing action from the selected attribute and applies the currently effective default action.
This action is not available when (global default) is selected in the tree control. The applied action will be the (default) for the current attribute or the (global default) if no explicit default action is applied to the attribute.
Include — Includes the current selection in processing.
Exclude — Excludes the current selection from processing.
Flag — Flags the current selection during processing.
When you select this action, the Flag Settings options become available enabling you to indicate the desired type of flagging.
Flag Settings — Enables you to indicate how to flag the current selection.
You can highlight the text contained in elements with the current flag attribute value set in one of the following ways:
No Decoration
Bold
Italic
Underline
Double Underline
Overline
Note that overline highlighting is not currently support for publishing. It is included in the dialog box, so that you can develop DITAVAL files that conform to the DITA standard.
You can assign color flagging with the following options:
Color — Indicate the color for the text.
Background — Indicates a background color for all of the text in the element.
You can assign a graphic to appear before or after the element with the following options:
Graphic Before — Indicates to include a graphic before the text in the element.
Both of these options have the following additional options:
Graphic — Opens the Select Graphic dialog box, where you can select the desired graphic.
Tool Tip — Indicates optional text to include with the graphic.
Graphic After — Indicates to include a graphic before the text in the element.
Import Profiles — Opens the Open dialog box, where you can select a profiling (.pcf) file to import into the DITAVAL file.
If the selected profiling file contains set profile groups, the Select Profile Group dialog box opens where you can select the profile groups to import. Note that if you are editing a DITAVAL file that currently contains processing settings, you are asked whether the current settings should be removed. If you choose not to remove the current settings, the settings from the profiling file are merged with the current settings.
Preview — Opens the current document in the in the DITAVAL Preview Window with the settings from the DITAVAL file applied.
If the current document is a DITA map, you are asked whether to open the map or the Resolved Document for Styling for the map. How the applied DITAVAL rules are displayed is determined by the setting of the ditavaldebug advanced preference.
This choice is not available when you open the dialog from a DITAVAL file.
Save — Saves the DITAVAL file.
This choice is not available when you open the dialog from a DITAVAL file.
Close — Closes the dialog box.
If there are unsaved changes to the DITAVAL file, you are prompted whether to abandon those changes.
