How to Create a Publishing Rule
You need to be using Arbortext Publishing Engine or Arbortext Styler for publishing documents or have a Print Composer license and/or a Web/Wireless Composer license accessible to your local system.
1. Open Create New Publishing Rule by choosing one of the following:
Tools > Administrative Tools > Publishing Rules, then choose New.
Create Rule from any of the File > Publish dialog boxes.
2. On the Name tab, fill in the Name, choose the output Type from the list, choose the Rule File, and enter a Description.
A publishing rule file has a unique identifier and the file extension .prcf. If you wish to create a new rule file, choose New to open Create Publishing Rule File, where you can specify a new rule file.
The Document Type and Target are already specified based on your current document and whether the rule will be a local rule or used on the Arbortext PE server.
3. On the Publish tab, choose the publishing properties for the output you selected. The selections are specific for your choice, so if you chose PDF, you can fill in stylesheet, PDF configuration file, profiling, and queuing if available.
4. You can enter parameters on the Advanced tab, though this is for an advanced user. Parameters that reflect the choices displayed on the Publish tab are displayed in the list as well. Therefore, be extremely cautious in making any changes to avoid breaking the rule’s functionality.
5. When you are finished, choose Save to save your rule. You’ll be returned to the previous window.
To choose the new rule in the future, you will publish your document of the same document type using File > Publish > Using Rule and choose the rule from the list.
Remember that a rule file can contain both rules and rule sets, and that those rules and rule sets can be either local or server within the same publishing rule file.
