Equation EditorSymbols Menu
Symbols include the common mathematical symbols, Greek letters, and the less common AMS-TeX characters.
• Common symbols.
• Lowercase Greek
• Uppercase Greek
• Operators — all standard mathematical operators are available. In addition, the Operators submenu includes special symbols:
◦ cups and caps
◦ circled operators
◦ vees and wedges
• Relations include not only symbols, but also the following:
◦ Arrows: single arrows and double arrows
◦ Miscellaneous relations
• To negate any relation, position the marker on the symbol in the equation and press F4. For example, \in becomes \notin. Since this toggles, you can also “unnegate” by pressing F4 again.
• Word Functions are standard math-roman abbreviations used in equations, such as sine (sin), limit (lim), and cotangent (cot).
• Dots provide a variety of dots which can be used in mathematical expressions.
• Miscellaneous symbols.
• AMS-TeX submenu contains the full set of TeX characters created by the American Mathematical Society. Categories of symbols include: special uppercase Greek, binary operators, relations, negated relations, arrows, triangles, and miscellaneous.
