Uses of Running Headers
Passing a title to a header or footer is just one example of where PTC Arbortext Layout Developer’s running headers can be used. Other applications of the feature are also possible:
Passing the current text language to header and footer streams to output the correct version of some generated text
Passing the location path of a specific node so that the content in the other stream can evaluate an XPath expression relative to that node
Passing some text formatting properties, such as color, to the other content stream so that it matches that used in the text
Using the first letter of the running header text to determine margins or other properties of a block to display bleed tabs. For example, a simple test of the first letter of the running header could output a block of color at a specific vertical location down the edge of the page.
