Using a Selection
1. Open a document and select a structurally complete unit. For example, a chapter, a section, or a paragraph.
*
If you create a file entity using a selection that includes pending changes (change tracking markup), your file entity will appear as if all changes had been accepted.
2. Choose Entities > Create file entity from selection.
3. In the Create file entities from selection dialog box, provide a name for the file entity in the Name text box. This name will appear in the Insert Markup dialog box (when Mode is set to File Entities), the File Entities dialog box, and on the file entity reference icon. The content you selected in your document will appear as read only text in the Content text box.
4. Specify the location where the file will reside. Do one of the following:
If you want the file to reside in the current working directory, leave the File name and Public ID boxes blank. Arbortext Editor will automatically save the entity in the same directory as your current document.
Browse to select or enter the directory path and file name in the File name box to specify a location if this file entity will only be used for this document.
Public IDs are used only if the entity is likely to be used by other documents. In order to use a public ID, you must first add one to your catalog file. You can also browse to select a file entity that has already been listed in your catalog file and assigned a public ID.
5. Click OK.
You can use the Arbortext-path\custom\entities subdirectory to store entities. Putting your entity files in the custom\entities subdirectory makes them automatically available, avoiding manual steps to add them to the path. The custom\entities path is automatically prepended to the entities path at startup.
