Adding an Attribute Value
You can modify an element's attributes and its format (if permitted in your document type). Attribute modifications are made in the dialog box for a particular element.
*
Your document template may be set up so that most elements cannot be modified.
1. Place the cursor within the tag pair of interest.
2. Choose Edit > Modify Attributes.
In the Modify Attributes dialog box , there may be text fields and pulldown lists.
The names and types of attributes and available attribute values are determined by the document type.
The appearance of the Modify Attributes dialog box may vary depending on the kind and number of attributes in the document.
In a Modify Attributes dialog box, the set of choices that are already filled-in is known as the default status for a tag. Other characteristics of the Modify Attributes dialog box are:
Underlined attribute names indicate values are required.
Attribute names displayed in blue indicate values have been modified. These appear on the tag in the Arbortext Editor window.
Attribute names displayed in black indicate that the values, if any, are the default set by the document type.
A pulldown list after an attribute shows the values available. These are determined by the document type.
A text box after an attribute lets you enter text or numbers. Identifier attributes (ID, IDREF) often have a text box.
The element tag having this list of attributes is displayed as a red tag at the bottom of the dialog box.
If an invalid value is entered, the dialog box will not close. The attribute name with the invalid value is displayed in red.
3. From the Modify Attributes dialog box you can click the Help button for more information about this window.
4. Add the value to the attribute of interest.
