Uploading an Object to a PTC Server
The PTC Server connection enables you to upload a document from your active workspace to the PTC Server. A workspace is a folder in your private area on the PTC Server. In order to improve performance, the workspace is also cached locally on your client workstation. Choosing > in Arbortext Editor saves documents to the local cache, but does not upload them to the server. Use the Save As Server Object choice to copy objects from the local cache to the server.
Once a document has been uploaded, you can see it and check it in through the PTC Server HTML interface. Note that the Arbortext Editor > menu choice implicitly uploads a document to the server. You can use the Save As Server Object choice to explicitly upload a document to the server either for backup or because you might be using a different workstation the next day. You can also explicitly upload a document to use some of the advanced check in options available in the PTC Server HTML interface, such as creating a baseline of the document.
Use the following procedure to upload a document to a PTC Server:
1. Check out and open the document in Arbortext Editor.
2. Choose > .
If your system administrator has configured document bursting for your use, the PTC Server connection automatically bursts the document into the required objects during the upload process. A message in the Arbortext Editor status bar indicates when the upload is complete.
If your system administrator has not configured automatic document bursting, the
Save As Properties dialog box opens. Use this dialog box to indicate the location to store the document on the PTC Server.
Saving a Graphic to the PTC Server when the Initial Save Failed
If you are using the > operation to save a document containing a graphic to the PTC Server and the operation fails, you will not be able to add that graphic to the PTC Server until you follow these steps:
1. Select > in the Browser.
2. Close and restart Arbortext Editor.
3. Use > again to attempt to add the document to the PTC Server.
