Equation EditorConstructs Menu
Many mathematical constructs are multi-level structures where the meaning of an equation depends on the size and positioning of its symbols. This menu provides options for creating such constructs. When using constructs, you should choose the type of construct you want before entering characters.
*
To insert existing characters into a newly selected construct, cut and paste the characters in the proper construct input box.
fraction produces a fraction bar with two input boxes, one for the numerator and the other for the denominator.
root is a square root symbol that provides for the addition of radical, radicand, and index.
atop stacks characters and has input boxes like a fraction without a fraction bar.
overline and underline produce lines over and under characters entered after choosing these options.
overbrace and underbrace are used to produce constructs with braces over or under characters.
accents provide diacritics that can be used in expressions. Note that an accent can encompass more than one character.
Delimiters such as braces and brackets can be inserted as Pairs or Singles.
Matrices of various dimensions are available. Two standard dimensions, 2x2 and 3x3 are available, plus a third option Prompt Me, which allows you to build a matrix to your specification.
Internal Aligned Equations lets you create rows of equations aligned vertically within the Equation Editor window. You can choose 2 rows, 3 rows, or Prompt Me, which lets you specify the number of rows desired.
Cases.
Choose 2 rows, 3 rows, or Prompt Me to determine the number of rows in the case. There are always two columns. Choosing Constructs > Matrices > Operations allows you to insert or delete rows after you initially choose the number of rows.
To resume typing outside the construct:
1. Press F5 repeatedly until the entire construct is surrounded by the marker.
