Recording Macros
You can use the Macro Recorder to record the steps you perform and save them as a macro for later use. Once you've recorded a macro, you can later edit it to change add and delete steps or to add a keyboard shortcut.
Recording a macro
1. With Arbortext Editor running, choose Tools > Macro > Record New Macro. The Record Macro dialog box is displayed.
2. In the Macro name field, type the name you want to assign to the macro.
Do not use an ACL command name as the name of a macro. Using an ACL command name as a macro name may cause unexpected results, as the macro name you assign will take priority over existing commands and aliases of the same name. The macro name must be a valid XML ID, starting with a letter and containing only letters; numbers; and '.', '-', and '_' symbols. Macro names are case sensitive.
3. In the Store macro in field, select the file where the new macro will be stored. The macro cannot be saved to a file with an inappropriate scope.
4. In the Description field, enter a description for the macro.
5. Choose OK to begin recording the macro. The Macro Recorder is displayed, the cursor changes to indicate the macro recorder is operating (changing to The cursor shape while the macro recorder is running.), and your actions will be recorded. The Macro Record will record your keystrokes, menu selections, toolbar use, and so on. The Macro Recorder will not record mouse movements and selections. (Mouse actions are disabled in the Edit pane.) Refer to Actions that are not recorded later in this topic for a list of other Arbortext Editor features that are not recorded.
