Applying Profiles
Use the following procedures to apply individual and group profiles. After the procedures is a list of guidelines to keep in mind when applying profiles.
Applying an individual profile
1. Place the cursor in the element you wish to profile, or click in the Document Map on the name of the element you wish to profile. Profiling affects the entire contents of an element. You cannot profile a portion of an individual element.
*
Select a specific element and its contents when you want to apply profiling. If you select a region of content within an element, the profiling is applied to the parent element containing the content region. Selecting a content region to apply profiling removes any other profiling that had been applied to elements within the parent element.
2. Choose Edit > Profiles > Apply Profiles. The Apply Profiles dialog box is displayed showing the existing profiling (if any) of the current element.
3. Ensure that Apply Individual Profiles is selected and check the profile values you wish to apply to the current element by clicking on the checkboxes next to the profile values.
A check mark in the checkbox means that profile is applied. An empty checkbox means it is not.
A gray checkbox next to a profile class indicates that some (but not all) of the profiles within the class are applied.
To apply all the profiles in a profile class, click the checkbox next to the folder for that profile class. (Only one value can be applied in classes containing unique individual profiles.)
If a parent element of the current element is already profiled, some profiles may not be available to apply to the current element. For example, if a chapter is profiled for Windows but not for UNIX, an individual paragraph within that chapter may not be profiled for UNIX.
4. Click OK to apply the specified profiling. Click Cancel to leave the profiling unchanged.
Applying a group profile
1. Apply a group profile using the same steps as applying an individual profile, with the only difference being that you must select Apply Profile Group instead of Apply Individual Profiles on the Apply Profiles dialog box.
