Inline and Display Equations
Inline equations appear within a paragraph and inherit the point size of the surrounding element. Display equations appear on their own line set off from the text by extra space above and below. They, too, inherit the point size of the surrounding element. The current mode is displayed inside angle brackets on the title bar at the top of the Equation Editor window.
Aligned equations are allowed in either inline or display equations. Multi-row centered inline equations are not allowed.
The status bar in the Equation Editor window informs you of the current style of the equation by showing either <display> or <inline>.
