Licensing Error Dialog Box
This dialog box appears when your
PTC Arbortext software can’t find a license. You will see the reported error accompanied by details about the error if available. There are a wide variety of reasons that your software can’t obtain a license. License information is stored on your system in the
PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE environment variable.
License Sources displays any known information about your current license setting.
For floating licenses, the more common error messages may report that the license server is down or that all licenses are in use. If so, you should wait a few minutes and try again. If the problem persists, contact your license administrator.
For node-locked licenses, the error message may report that the path to the license file is not valid. If so, you will need to locate the license file and update the path.
If there is no licensing information defined or it’s incorrect, you will need to enter new or correct license information in Update Sources. Depending on your licensing implementation, enter your licensing information based on one of the following scenarios:
• For a node-locked license file, enter the license file path. You can Browse to the location.
• For a single floating license server, enter the license server port@servername information, for example, 6789@aberdeen.
• For a triad server configuration, enter:
port@servername1,port@servername2,port@servername3.
For example:
3456@able,3456@baker,3456@charlie
• For a combination of node-locked and floating licenses, you would enter both the license file path and the port and server name. Note that each type of license option is separated by a semicolon (;). For example:
C:\User Data\All Users\Application Data\Arbortext\lm_12345678_standard.txt;3456@able,3456@baker,3456@charlie
When you enter or correct the license information, click Retry. If it succeeds, you will see the License Obtained dialog box as confirmation. Updated Sources displays the information you entered. You can then click Save to store this information in the PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE environment variable for future PTC Arbortext sessions. If you entered a temporary solution to a license issue, you can choose Don’t Save, which allows your session to start but does not change the environment variable.
If you do not have a license:
• you can get a node-locked license from the PTC Support web site. You need a PTC.com web account customer login and password, your Customer Number, and your Host ID. The Host ID, which is the Physical Address for the computer, is displayed on the Licensing Error dialog box.
• you can get floating license information from your license administrator. You will need the port and server name as previously mentioned.
Refer to
Licensing Information for more information about license types and requesting licenses.

If you get this error while using Arbortext Publishing Engine Interactive on the Arbortext PE server, setting PTC_D_LICENSE from this dialog box sets a User Variable. To be sure licenses are available for Arbortext PE sub-processes, you must set PTC_D_LICENSE as a System Variable. Refer to Arbortext Publishing Engine Licensing in Installation Guide for Arbortext Publishing Engine for information.
