Differences Between a Compact and Full Installation
The compact installation of Arbortext Editor has the following primary differences from the full installation:
• The compact install tree is much smaller than the full tree.
• Composition requires Arbortext Publishing Engine.
• Print preview produces a PDF file.
• Print composed produces a PDF file.
• SVG graphics are displayed in PTC Arbortext IsoView.
• SGML document types cannot be complied.
• The Technical Information Application is an optional component.
• Creo View Express and Arbortext IsoView are optional components.
• The Arbortext Import/Export Import Workbench is not available.
• Arbortext Change Page for Defense is not available.
• Some Arbortext Editor menu choices and dialog box options are changed or not available.
• Some Arbortext Editor startup command options are not available.
The Compact Install Tree
The size of the compact install tree is much smaller than the full Arbortext Editor install tree. The size of the tree has been reduced to make the compact installation easier to download for users. Generally, any directory or file that does not directly support authoring is not available in the compact installation. For example, the samples directory is not available in the compact installation, as it is intended for customizing Arbortext Editor.
Reducing the size of the installation tree has resulted in some Arbortext Editor product options being unavailable or different from the full installation. The following sections provide details about those differences.
Composition
Local composition is not supported in the compact installation. You must have Arbortext Publishing Engine available to compose documents with a compact installation. Note that it is recommended you set the peservices and peserverurl preferences in the Deploy Directory’s siteprefs.xml file.
Print Preview
In the compact installation, the > operation does not invoke the Preview window. Instead, this operation produces a PDF file that is displayed in Adobe Reader or the system’s default PDF viewing application. Since this involves PDF composition, print preview requires Arbortext Publishing Engine. Also, a PDF viewing application must also be available on the system.
Print
In the compact installation, the > operation also produces a PDF file that is displayed in the system’s default PDF viewing application. Once the PDF file is displayed in the PDF viewing application, users must print the PDF from that application.
When a user selects the Print operation in a compact installation, Arbortext Editor displays a Print Information dialog box informing the user that this operation produces a PDF file. This dialog box includes a Do not show this again check box, so the user can choose to not see that dialog box again.
SVG Graphics
In the compact installation, SVG graphics are displayed in the Arbortext Editor embedded PTC Arbortext IsoView control. In the full installation, a raster image is generated and displayed for this graphic type in the Edit view. Note that this does not affect composition of the graphic, just the display in the Edit view.
Note that if svg is removed from the setting of the isovieweditorfileformats preference, then that graphic type cannot be displayed in the compact installation.
SGML Document Types
The compact installation does not support compiling document types. If a user attempts to open an SGML document for which the associated document type has not been compiled, the document can only be opened in free-form mode or as text. If you are using an SGML document type, be sure to compile the document type before including it in your Deploy Directory.
Technical Information Application
The Technical Information Application is an optional component in the compact installation. You can choose to include the Technical Information Application in your Deploy Directory.
Creo View Express and Arbortext IsoView
Creo View Express and Arbortext IsoView are optional components in the compact installation. If you want to work with intelligent graphics, you must include Creo View Express in your Deploy Directory.
Arbortext Import/Export
The compact installation does not support the development of Arbortext Import/Export import maps. The following choices on the > menu are not available in the compact installation:
• Open Import Project
• New Import Project
• Import Workbench Configuration
If Arbortext Publishing Engine is available and configured for Arbortext Import/Export, then the > > and > > choices are available. Otherwise, the Import menu is not available at all and only the > choice is available.
Arbortext Change Page for Defense
The Arbortext Change Page for Defense option is not available in the compact installation. The full installation is required for this product.
Menu Choices and Dialog Box Options
Besides the menu choices already covered in previous sections, the following menu choices are not available in the compact installation:
• >
• >
• All Format menu FOSI editing choices
• > >
The following dialog box options are changed in the compact installation:
• Dialog boxes associated with the print preview and print composed operations are changed to support PDF composition.
• The Arbortext Article (XML DocBook V4.0) document type is not available in the New Document dialog box.
• The Session tab on the Session dialog box has a new Compact Installation value that displays whether the version of Arbortext Editor currently running is a compact installation.
Startup Command Options
Some command line options for the Arbortext Editoreditor.exe startup command are not available in the compact installation. For example, only the free version of Arbortext Styler is supported in the compact installation so the -styler option is not supported. If you try to use a command line option that is not supported, Arbortext Editor displays a message that the option is not supported.
The following options are not supported:
• -styler
• -pe
• -pei
• -v
• -N
• -architect
