Row Ruler
You can display table rulers by choosing View > Tables > Table Rulers. The Row Ruler is the vertical ruler that appears to the left of tables in the Edit pane when your cursor is located within a table. The Row Ruler supports the following:
A ruler display of the height of the table.
Row tabs for setting a fixed height for the rows in the table.
Display of the row height for fixed rows in the table, which turns red when the content of the row exceeds the set height in the Editor display.
Display of the current height of all of the rows in the table by holding down the CTRL key while clicking on a tab in the ruler.
A shortcut menu enabling you to manipulate the currently selected row(s).
You open the menu by right-clicking between the row tabs. The following table provides a summary of the choices available on the Row Ruler shortcut menu.
Option
Description
Cut
Removes the selected rows from your table and places the rows on the clipboard. Not available with discontinuous row selections.
Copy
Copies the selected rows and places the rows on the clipboard. Not available with discontinuous row selections.
Paste
Inserts the rows on the clipboard below the currently selected row.
Paste Insert Above
Inserts the rows on the clipboard above the currently selected row.
Paste Insert Below
Inserts the rows on the clipboard below the currently selected rows.
Convert to Header Row
Converts the currently selected rows to header rows. Not applicable to custom tables.
Convert to Footer Row
Converts the currently selected rows to footer rows. Not applicable to custom tables.
Convert to Body Row
Converts the currently selected header or footer rows to body rows. Not applicable to custom tables.
Insert Row Above
Inserts a row above the row containing the cursor.
Insert Row Below
Inserts a row below the row containing the cursor.
Delete Row
Removes the selected row(s) from your table.
Insert Grid Above
Inserts a new grid above the row containing the cursor. Not applicable to Arbortext, HTML, or custom tables.
Insert Grid Below
Inserts a new grid below the row containing the cursor. Not applicable to Arbortext, HTML, or custom tables.
Split Grid
Splits the current grid into two new grids. Not applicable to Arbortext, HTML, or custom tables.
Span Cells
Combines two or more selected cells. The contents of the cells are preserved and distributed across the newly spanned cell. Not applicable to custom tables.
Unspan Cells
Splits cells which have been spanned. Any content is placed in the upper left most cell. Not applicable to custom tables.
Split Cells
Displays the Split Cells dialog box.
Convert Row Dimensions
Changes the unit of measurement for the currently selected rows. The current unit of measure has a check mark next to it. Not applicable to custom tables.
Table Properties
Displays the Table Properties dialog box.
Ruler Display Dimensions
Accesses a submenu for selecting the ruler units for the Row Ruler.
