Importing Text Files
Follow these procedures to import text files.
To navigate and paste from the text file:
1. Open a destination document in the Arbortext Editor Edit window.
2. Place your cursor in a valid text insertion location (for example, within a paragraph element).
3. Choose File > Import > Import a Text File and open the desired text file. The first line in the text file will be highlighted.

If you are editing a document in a document type that is not fully supported by Arbortext Editor, the menu option will be File > Import Text File.
If you do not already have a file open for editing, Arbortext Editor prompts you to create a new file.
The Import Text window and the Element Viewer will appear. The Arbortext Editor Edit window will automatically resize so that you can see all three windows at once.
4. In the Edit window, place the insertion point where you want to paste imported text in your document. The element the insertion point is within is highlighted in the Element Viewer.
5. In the Import Text window, highlight the text you wish to paste and choose Edit > Select Current Block.
6. Choose Edit > Insert Selected Text to insert the selected block into the destination document. Arbortext Editor automatically selects the next line/paragraph in the text file.
7. To add the newly selected line/paragraph to the same element in the destination document, simply choose Edit > Insert Selected Text again.

To add the newly selected line/paragraph to a new element, insert the desired element from the Element Viewer.
To insert text into separate elements:
1. Open a destination document in the Arbortext Editor Edit window.
2. Choose File > Import > Import a Text File and open the desired text file. The first line will be highlighted.

If you are editing a document in a document type that is not fully supported by Arbortext Editor, the menu option will be File > Import Text File.
3. If you wish to select text in paragraph-like blocks, choose Options > Paragraph Hi-lite in the Import Text window.
4. Highlight the text you wish to paste.
5. Navigate to the place where you wish to insert the highlighted text. Either click in the desired location in the Edit window, or use the options in the Element Viewer.
To navigate with the Element Viewer, choose Find > Move Forward as many times as necessary to place the cursor in the desired position. To move backward, choose Find > Move Backward. To move directly to the next occurrence of the current element, choose Find > Find Next.
6. Insert the selected line/paragraph of text. Choose Edit > Insert Selected Text, or double click the green element name. Arbortext Editor automatically selects the next line/paragraph in the text file.
7. To insert the next selected line/paragraph of text into a separate sibling element, choose View > Show Sibling Elements. Double click on the desired element name in the list. If the element is shown in green, Arbortext Editor adds the desired element to the document, and inserts the currently selected line/paragraph inside it. Arbortext Editor automatically selects the next line/paragraph in the text file.

If the element is shown in blue, you will have to insert another child element that can accept PCDATA (that is, parsed character data or text). Elements that can accept PCDATA are shown in green.
By using the Move, Find, Show Children, and Show Sibling functions, you can construct more complex document structures like bulleted lists, numbered procedures, and glossaries.
