TMPDIR — Specifying an Alternate Temporary Directory
For some operations, Arbortext Editor creates temporary files in the temp directory. The environment variable TMPDIR may be set to specify an alternate temporary directory. An example when this would be useful is if temp does not have sufficient space for formatting when printing large documents (particularly those incorporating large graphics), or when formatting a document whose directory is not writable.

If the TMPDIR environment variable is used by other software packages on your system (for example, the mail system Elm), setting this environment variable could result in unexpected behavior.
