APTOVERFLOWHYPHEN — Specifying Whether to use Overflow Hyphenation
Global automatic overflow hyphenation breaks words anywhere if the alternative is to go overfull. This behavior is enabled by default. For example, by default, part numbers in narrow table cells do not overflow to the next column, but will instead break over two lines. The normal hyphen character is used at overflow hyphenation points.
To disable it globally, set APTOVERFLOWHYPHEN to OFF, which takes effect regardless of other hyphenation settings such as hyphen:overflowhyph in a FOSI.
However, the recommended way to disable overflow hyphenation would be to set the hyphen:overflowhyph characteristic on a block element, such as docdesc, in a FOSI stylesheet.
To disable automatic overflow hyphehation for a document, document type or all document types, you can also put the following lines into the appropriate .tmx file.
% globally disable the use of overflow hyphenation
\overflowhyphenation=0
