TIFF
Format type — Bitmap
Operating systems — Windows
TIFF images are suitable for a wide range of applications, independent of computer architecture, operating system, and graphics hardware. The format handles black and white, grayscale, and color images.
TIFF files can be compressed in several ways. A TIFF reader program must support these various schemes to prevent problems in reading the files. As a data exchange format between applications, the variant type of TIFF can cause problems. Vendors can register proprietary, undisclosed data field formats. Doing so allows vendors to claim TIFF compatibility while actually maintaining a closed format. Compounding this problem is the failure of many developers to fully or properly execute this complex file format specification.
Arbortext Editor supports the industry-standard TIFF compression formats and file format variants.
