The term "formatting" is used extensively with PTC ALD. It is the main part of the PTC ALD document process and the area in which PTC ALD's strength and flexibility become clear. It is useful to clarify the meaning of the term in an PTC ALD context as it differs from that used in the context of other applications. Formatting with PTC ALD does not mean the application of styling and other properties to the content of an existing document to make it look as it should, although this is part of the process. Formatting with PTC ALD is a logical process by which the document's content streams are processed step by step to extract the text and add it to frames, using the paragraph structure assigned by style tags to place it correctly in the frame.
