PDF Content
The PTC Arbortext Content Delivery FO engine supports embedding existing PDF content within the PDF being generated from converting XML to XSL FO, so the generated PDF book is typically an aggregation of both types of content.
In addition, an XSL FO overlay is applied to the PDF content (a feature of the FO engine) so that PDF pages can get a header and/or footer added on top of the existing PDF content. This functionality is used to add page numbering in the footer of the embedded PDF pages, so that the numbering is consistent throughout the generated book.
Each document included for print has in the footer local page numbering starting from 1 displayed along the outside edge and a global page numbering appearing in the middle in light grey color. The global page number is the same value that Acrobat shows in its UI.
The local page number is followed by a forward slash and the total number of pages within that particular document.
The generated PDF book has a TOC where each entry is a hyperlink to the corresponding global page number:
