Deployment Options: On-Premises Versus Cloud Services
When your company purchases PTC Arbortext Content Delivery, there is a basic deployment decision made related to the actual deployment and management of PTC Arbortext Content Delivery. The following sections describe the two main deployment options; on-premises or cloud services.
On-Premises
Using an on-premises deployment typically means hosting and managing the PTC Arbortext Content Delivery software on your servers, and maintaining responsibility for infrastructure and application support and performance.
With an on-premises deployment, you can perform the deployment yourself or engage PTC Customer Success (or a PTC certified partner) to manage the deployment on company servers.
Companies with a robust IT organization and a strong desire to maintain in-house control over the system often choose this option.
Cloud Services
Using a cloud services deployment typically means deploying, hosting, and managing the delivery portions of a PTC Arbortext Content Delivery application on a third party server, usually in a private cloud. With cloud services, an outside organization is responsible for managing the necessary infrastructure and ensuring application performance.
The publishing portion of a PTC Arbortext Content Delivery Application is typically maintained in proximity of the systems that generated the authored content.
For companies concerned with the IT burden and expertise required to manage PTC Arbortext Content Delivery, PTC provides a cloud services deployment option. With PTC Cloud Services, companies purchasing PTC Arbortext Content Delivery can typically accelerate deployment, minimize IT cost and requirements, and ensure ongoing performance. PTC Cloud Services hosts your PTC Arbortext Content Delivery solution in a secure PTC data center that has ongoing application management, performance tuning, and updates.

Mixing On-Premises and Cloud Services
For a complete PTC Arbortext Content Delivery deployment, the use of both on-premises and cloud services is also an acceptable option. A common case will be that the content authoring system is established within a company’s IT infrastructure, but the company intent is to have the content delivery provide through a managed service solution. Such a deployment can be achieved.
The PTC Arbortext Content Delivery publishing utilities (Content authoring system, Arbortext Publishing Engine, and PTC Arbortext Content Delivery Publishing application) could be established within the company’s IT infrastructure. The task to generate published bundles would be managed through the SIM/SP and APE utilities. Then the PTC Arbortext Content Delivery publishing application would obtain this bundle, transform and aggregate the content into the PTC Arbortext Content Delivery system.
The PTC Arbortext Content Delivery content delivery utilities (PTC Arbortext Content Delivery Viewer application) could be established within the hosted locatation maintained by the cloud services organization.
After the transform and aggregate tasks, the Publisher will load the Viewers with the published content. A secure FTP connection is needed between the on-premises Publisher and the hosted Viewers in order to complete the overall publishing process.
