Scalextric 4 Schools
PTC provides teachers and students with a FREE copy of their fully featured CreoTM Education Edition.
Use the same software professional designers and engineers use across the world.
Use laser cutters to cut out the chassis and CNC machines to make moulds and vacuum form bodies.
Cost price components from Scalextric complete the cars.
Schools can buy the challenge track at a heavily discounted price for testing, practice and races against other schools.
Championship races in some regions offer teams the chance to become Champions. Video of 2011 UK finals.
Four challenges have been developed focussing on different aspects of design and engineering.
Click ‘Get Started’ on the home page to find out if there is an official championship in your region.
F3 circuit race
This is the most popular challenge with teams of up to four students designing, making and racing a car to race around a twisting circuit as fast as possible. Good design and driving skill is the key to success in this category.
Bloodhound SSC land speed record
Teams of up to four students design and build a car to travel as fast as possible in a straight line powered only by electricity (12v 8a) through the track. Rules are very similar to those governing full size land speed record attempts.
The Bloodhound SSC team in the UK are hoping to exceed 1000mph!
Speed controller
Aimed at individual students, the challenge is to design a speed controller for someone who cannot use the standard controllers.
Efficient pulse-width-modulation circuits are available based on either discrete components or programmable interface controller (PIC) chips.
Eco Challenge
Help save the planet by designing an efficient transport vehicle for people or goods. Move the most the furthest using the energy stored in a standard pair of capacitors built into the vehicle.
Electronic circuits charge super capacitors in the car and control the speed through normal Scalextric Sport track.
