Part Structure Information
The Structure tab within the part information page contains tools for displaying and editing part structures. The tab is divided into three sections, the actions toolbar, the current filter toolbar, and the part structure panes.
Actions Toolbar
The actions toolbar appears just below the part identity and Actions menu. The actions in the toolbar are divided into sections called action sets.
*
More space for structure information can be made available by collapsing the toolbar. Click the collapse icon on the right side, just below the toolbar.
The following table provides an overview of the actions available in each actions set in the toolbar:
Action Set
Actions
Editing
Actions that modify the part structure. Actions include revising, inserting, deleting parts, and editing part and relationship attributes. For more information, see Editing Action Set - Parts.
Check Out/In
Includes Check Out, Check In, and Undo Checkout. These actions reserve or release the right to modify parts. Also contains the My Checkouts action to display parts checked out to you. For more information, see Check Out/In Action Set - Parts.
Clipboard
Includes Copy and Paste actions that allow you to modify the part structure. For more information, see Clipboard Action Set - Parts.
Viewing
Actions that change the information displayed in part structures. For more information, see Viewing Action Set - Parts.
New/Add To
Actions that create new objects from selected parts in the structure tab on the part information page. Also allows selected parts in the part structure to be added to baselines, packages, promotion requests, or projects. For more information, see New/Add To Action Set - Parts.
Filter
Actions to view and edit the filters used to display the part structure. For more information, see Filter Action Set - Parts.
Tools
Actions that allow you to compare structures or open structures in other applications such as Creo View. For more information, see Tools Action Set - Parts
Service
The Service action set is only available if Windchill Service Parts is installed.
The Generate icon allows you to auto-generate parts lists from an associated SBOM. The following choices are available in the drop down menu:
Generate Parts Lists for Selected Parts – generates parts lists for selected parts in the SBOM
Generate Parts Lists for All Parts – generates parts lists for all available parts in the SBOM
*
The process is only available for parts that have child parts, and do not already have corresponding parts lists.
Refer to Generating Parts Lists from SBOM Parts for further information.
Reports
The Reports action provides the ability to generate the standard part structure reports contained in the drop-down menu.
The Export action provides the ability to export the part structure information to your workstation in the file formats contained in the drop-down menu.
For more information, see Reports Action Set - Parts.
Current Filter Toolbar
The current filter toolbar, located below the Actions toolbar, allows you to view the information on the current top-level configuration specifications and icons for various filter types, such as Spatial Filter, Option Filter, Attribute Filter, and Path Filter, applied to the part structure. Details of the first configuration specification include the type of specification and the values of attributes used in the configuration specification. The current configuration specifications can be updated directly from this toolbar without having to click the Edit Filter or Current Filter actions from the Actions toolbar.
Clicking an attribute displayed on the Current Filter toolbar opens a dialog box, where the value of that attribute for the configuration specification can be updated. For example, if you select the Design view, it opens a dialog box where you can change the Design view to any other view.
An ellipsis is displayed on the current filter toolbar with a tooltip Additional Configuration Specification Information, when more than one configuration specification is defined. Clicking the ellipsis opens the Edit Filter window displaying the Configuration Specification tab. An ellipsis is also displayed when a custom configuration specification is used with more than seven attributes, truncating the display after the first seven attributes.
*
For out-of-the-box configuration specifications, the attributes can be edited from the current filter toolbar. For custom configuration specifications, clicking an attribute opens the Edit Filter window with the top-level configuration specification selected.
For a required attribute, an asterisk appears next to the input field with a tooltip as Required. The Clear action is not available for attributes that are marked Required.
For an object contained in the product or library context, which is shared to a project and launched from the project context, or an object contained in a project context, the current filter toolbar displays the Latest Project Version configuration specification with the tooltip as Config Type. Selecting this configuration specification opens the Edit Filter window displaying only the Latest Project Version configuration specification type, as no attributes are available.
For more information about configuration specifications, see About Configuration Specifications.
For defined filters, the filter type indicator is displayed on this toolbar. Hovering over the filter type indicator displays the tooltip for the filter type. Clicking the indicator opens the Edit Filter window, where you can edit the filter definition. For undefined filters, the icons are not displayed on the current filter toolbar.
For more information about filtering a product structure using option filters, see Filtering a Configurable Product Structure with the Option Filter.
For more information about current filters, see Viewing a Structure’s Current Filter Properties.
Part Structure Panes
The area below the toolbar is divided into panes. Either two or three panes appear depending on the Display option you have selected under the Viewing actions set. The left-most pane displays the part structure. For more information about manipulating the part structure, see About the Part Structure Pane.
The other panes contain information, organized into tabs, about the part that is selected in the part structure pane. The following table describes the tabs and the information they contain:
Tab
Description
Attributes
Displays important attribute information about the part. For more information about the attributes displayed in this tab, see Part Attributes.
Classification
Shows the classification attributes associated to the part. This tab is only available when Windchill PartsLink Classification and Reuse is installed. For more information, see Working with Classification Administration.
Uses
Displays the parts that are used by the part selected in the structure pane. In a three pane display the Uses tab is in the bottom pane. From this tab, you can perform actions such as inserting new and existing parts and modifying attributes on the parent/child association between parts. For more information, see The Uses Tab.
Occurrences
Displays information about each usage of a part within an assembly. In a three pane display the Occurrences tab is in the bottom pane. For more information, see The Occurrences Tab.
Visualization
*
The visualization tab is hidden when using Windchill on the Macintosh operating system.
Displays graphic images of all parts with published geometry generated from CAD models. Selecting the image of a part expands the part structure and highlights the part in the part structure pane, selecting a part in the part structure pane highlights the same part in the Visualization tab.
*
Automatically Select from Structure to Visualization and Automatically Select from Visualization to Structure must be set set using the Toggle the automatic selection preference icon at the top of the visualization pane. These preferences are turned off by default.
For more information, see Visualization Tab.
Documents
Displays information about the documents associated with the parts in a structure. Document information is displayed in a tabular format in the Described By Documents, Reference Documents, and CAD/Dynamic Documents sections. In the Described By Documents and Reference Documents sections, documents associated with a part can be viewed, added, changed, or removed. For more information, see The Documents Tab.
Parameters
Displays parameters for advanced selection logic on Configurable Parts. For more information, see Parameters Tab.
Constraints
Displays constraints specifying a condition for advanced selection logic on Configurable Parts. For additional information, see Developing Advanced Selection Logic for Configurable Modules and Basic Steps for Defining Advanced Selection. For more information, see Constraints Tab.
Configurable Links
Displays the configurable links for the selected part in the structure.
*
The configurable links are defined using Type Manager. For more information, see Using the Configurable Links.
These links (Describe, Master, Reference, Revision) can be configured to support site-specific relationship types between parts, documents, and changes. In the custom tables in this tab, these configurable links can be added, removed, or displayed.
To enable the display of Configurable Link Examples in this tab, set the com.ptc.windchill.enterprise.part.psb.showConfigurableLinksTab property to true. For more details, see Making the Configurable Links Available in PSB .
