Customizing Information Page Tabs for the Organization
Public and Private Tabs
As an organization administrator, any information page tabs that you create and configure for an object type can be Set Public or Set Private when you right-click the tab name. If a tab is Set Public, it is available to all users in your organization.
For example, if you create a new tab on a documentation information page, by default it is Set Private, and only you can see it. But if you right-click the tab and select Set Public, the tab is then available on all document information pages for all users in your organization.
Note the following information regarding public and private tabs:
Set Private is the default setting.
Private tabs display in gray.
Public tabs display in blue and include a public tab icon identifying that any changes made to the tab will be seen throughout your organization.
Organization administrators can see out-of-the-box information page tabs, information page tabs set public at the site level, and information page tabs set public by an organization administrator for their organization. Organization administrators cannot manage information page tabs created by individual users.
For any tabs Set Public by a site administrator, the tab title displays in italics for end users and organization administrators to indicate that the tab cannot be modified.
For any tabs Set Public by an organization administrator, individual users cannot modify the tab, except to drag-and-drop the tab location on the information page. Any tabs created by an organization administrator can only be managed by you or an organization administrator for the same organization. This includes:
renaming the tab
changing or reordering the tables within the tab
deleting the tab
Show or Hide Tabs on Subtypes
Determine if information page tabs that you create display on information pages for objects that are subtypes. For example, if you have a part subtype called electrical part, and you create a new tab on part information pages, determine whether the new tab should also display on information pages for electrical parts. Right-click the tab name and select Hide On Subtype or Show On Subtype.

New tabs created on information pages for objects that are subtypes are not inherited by parent types. So if you created a new tab on information pages for electrical parts, it will not display on part information pages.
