Associating a Made From Part with a Part
Use the Made From action to add a Made From part under the part that it manufactures.
*
Relationship constraints determine the parts for which you can add a Made From part, and the parts that can be added as Made From parts. The constraints are added under the type Manufacturing Raw Material Link in the Type and Attribute Management utility. For more information, see Relationship Constraints Tab.
1. Select a part in the upstream or downstream structure pane.
2. From the Editing tool bar action, select Insert Made From.
3. In the Insert Made From window, enter appropriate criteria to search for parts to be inserted in the part structure.
*
By default, you can add parts of type Part only. An Administrator can define the relationship constraint for the Manufacturing Raw Material Link type to include the soft types of Part. For more information, see Relationship Constraints Tab.
4. Click Search. The parts that match the search criteria appear in the search results table.
5. Select the parts that you want to insert as Made From parts, and click OK.
The Edit Made From Attributes window appears if the selected parts contain attributes that are marked as required but do not have any values set. Enter the required values and click OK. By default, Quantity, Trace, Code, and Unit are set as required. The default values for these attributes are set in the Type and Attribute Management utility.
The Made From part is added under the selected part. To view the added part, right-click the selected part and select Show/Hide Specific Information > Made From. The Show/Hide Specific Information action is also available in the Viewing toolbar menu. After selecting the action, in the Show/Hide Related Information dialog box, select Made From and click OK.
*
The Insert Made From action does not iterate the part with which you associate the Made From part.
You can view details of the Made From part in the Made From table displayed in the Made From tab in BOM Transformer and in the Related Objects tab on the part information page. You can customize the table view to display additional attributes of the Made From part and association. For more information, see Customizing Table Views.
The Made From table in the Related Objects tab displays the name and number of the part and the default attributes of the Made From association. You can customize the table view to display additional attributes of the association.
*
A Made From part is treated as an association in MPMLink. The actions that are applicable to associations in BOM Transformer, such as documents and extended data, are also applicable to the Made From parts. However, a Made From part is a part. Therefore, the actions that are specific to a part, such as Insert New, Insert Existing, Edit Part, are also available.
You can copy over the Made From associations in BOM Transformer based on the configuration specified in the copy over framework. The syntax to copy over a Made From association is value="WCTYPE|wt.part.WTPart~MBA|madeFrom@WCTYPE|wt.mpm.rawmaterial.RawMaterialLink". For more information, see Copy Over Framework.
When the Track “Made From” History Through Change Notice preference is set to No, the Made From association will be carried forward based on the configuration specified in the copy over framework. When set to Yes, the latest association will be carried forward only if a change notice or change task number is specified for the downstream structure using the Set Configuration Specification or Open in BOM Transformer with Context action. A new manufacturing history object will be created and the change will be tracked against the specified change notice as Add event. If a valid change notice or change task number is not provided, the Made From association will not be carried forward. For more information, see Tracking Usage History of Made From Parts.
You cannot assign expressions to a Made From part in the occurrence mode. The Assign Expression action is disabled for such parts in BOM Transformer.
