Locking and Unlocking Objects in the Workspace
Locking a workspace object gives it a read-only status in the workspace and in the CAD application session.
You may want to make an object read-only for any of the following reasons.
To avoid inadvertent modification
To reduce the number of times that the Conflicts window is presented for objects that are not intended to be modified
To give the user better visibility into changes made implicitly by the CAD application (for example, unplanned or unexpected changes required during regeneration/rebuilding) (Windchill PDMLink orWindchill ProjectLink only)
To prevent the object from being saved
*
Read-only object status is a property of the local cache, whether the workspace is online, offline, or portable. There is no notion of a locked object in the server-side workspace (which is viewed in standalone browser) or the commonspace.
The preference Workspace > Add to Workspace and Check Out > Automatically lock objects added to workspace can set the workspace lock default to automatically lock all objects that are not being checked out during Add to Workspace and Check Out operations.
*
When you update a locked object in workspace, the lock is retained even though a new version is created to the workspace.This is useful when you are not the owner of the CAD docs or cannot modify it.For example, your colleague is the working on part, abc.prt.This morning you added it to your workspace and either explicitly or automatically locked it, since you don’t want to change it. Now your colleague checks in a new version and you want to get it; but it still doesn’t change the fact that you can’t or shouldn’t modify abc.prt.The update action will now bring that new version and lock it so you can get your updates and keep it read only at the same time.
Locking Objects
To lock a workspace object, use the following procedure:
1. Select one or more checked-in workspace objects (modified or unmodified).
2. Select File > Lock. The object becomes read-only, and is marked as such by a status icon in the General status column.
*
If a config.pro option such as regenerate_read_only_objects is set to true in aCreo Parametric session, the modification of locked objects is allowed during regeneration. The objects remain read-only, but are marked as modified.
Unlocking Objects
To unlock a workspace object:
1. Select a locked workspace object.
2. Select File > Unlock.
The object General status icon for the locked state is removed.
