Configuring Windchill Workgroup Manager to Support Multiple Environments
You can configure Windchill Workgroup Manager to associate documents stored in Windchill with a CATIA V5 environment to ensure that the document is opened from and saved to Windchill using its associated environment.
Use the following steps to configure Windchill Workgroup Manager to support multiple environments. Once you have performed these configuration steps, see Using Environment Management for more information.
Step 1: Configure Windchill Workgroup Manager Preferences
You must set the following preferences in the Preference Management table in Windchill so that Windchill Workgroup Manager can support multiple CATIA V5 environments:
Preference
Description
Notes
Enable Environment Management
Specifies the string to control whether to enable managing environment information.
Set to Yes.
Managed Environment Variable
The environment variable used by environment management tools to specify the current environment.
If you use the FlexPlus tool, you must enter V5_PROJ.
Optionally, you can also set the following preferences:
Preference
Description
Notes
Environment Management Parameter
The value of the string defines the name of the Windchill attribute that displays the environment information.
Save data with active environment
When saving a document, controls whether to associate documents which have not been associated with an environment to the active (or running) CATIA V5 environment.
Set this preference to No if you prefer to manually set the environment of CAD Documents that are not currently associated with an environment.
Allow to save in different environment
When opening a document into an environment different from the one to which it is associated, controls whether to only prompt the user that the document is opened in the wrong environment, or to prompt and prevent saving the document from that environment.
Step 2: Configure the Environment Variable
*
This step does not apply if you are using a third-party environment management utility.
On each user’s machine, define the environment variable that stores the name of the CATIA V5 environment. Then, set the name of this variable as a value of Managed Environment Variable preference.
For example, suppose that the CATIA V5 environment is named ENV_A. First, you would define the Windows environment variable, such as CAT_ENV_NAME=ENV_A. Then, you would set the value of the Managed Environment Variable preference to CAT_ENV_NAME.
Step 3: Create Your Environment Management Parameter Attribute
If you or your administrator have not already created the attribute to be used in the Environment Management Parameter preference, use the Type and Attribute Management utility to create and associate it to CAD documents:
*
You may need administrative permissions to perform this task.
1. From Windchill, click the Type and Attribute Management link from Site > Utilities or Organizations > Utilities.
2. In the Manage Global Attributes window, click the new attribute icon .
The New Attribute window appears.
3. Enter the following information, and then click OK:
In the Name field, enter the value you entered in the Environment Management Parameter preference.
Select String from the Data Type list.
In the Logical Identifier field, enter a name to identify the attribute in external configuration and property files. It is often the same as the attribute name and should be unique across all attributes in the system.
The attribute definition appears in edit mode.
4. Enter a description in the Description field.
5. Click Save or OK to save your changes.
The attribute has been created. Next, it must be associated to CAD documents.
6. Under the Manage Types pane, expand EPM Document > CAD Document.
7. Right-click CAD Document and click Edit.
8. In the Attributes tab, click the New Attribute icon .
9. In the Internal Name field, enter an internal name and click Next.
10. Under Global Attributes, find and check the attribute you created earlier.
11. Click Finish.
The attribute is added to CAD Documents.
