Adding BOM Parts to a Parts List
There are two methods to add BOM parts to a parts list.
You can drag and drop parts from the BOM into the parts list. Use the following steps:
1. If the BOM containing the parts is not already associated with the parts list, associate it using the instructions in Associating a BOM to a Parts List.
2. With your parts list open in the Parts List Editor, click on the associated BOM’s tab in the part structure pane to display the parts in the BOM.
*
The list of items displayed in the BOM tab is subject to any applicability (Options and Service Effectivity) filters that are currently active for the associated parts list.
Items that do not match the Current Filter setting or saved filters are not displayed.
3. Select single or multiple parts (using the CTRL key) in the BOM.
4. Drag the part(s) to the required location in the parts list tree, either between two parts in the tree or onto an existing part. Graphic indicators demonstrate whether the intended location is permitted.
5. Drop the part(s) to a permitted location in the parts list tree. The following guidelines apply:
If the part is dropped between two existing parts, the new parts list item is placed as a sibling between the two existing items.
If the part is dropped onto an existing part, the new parts list item is placed as a sibling of the original item.
The Item Number attribute of the dropped part is set to the next available number.
*
Dropping parts above the Parts List root node is not permitted.
You can also use the Parts List Editor UI to add parts from a BOM to a parts list. Use the following steps:
1. Associate the BOM to the parts list, and open the parts list in the Parts List Editor, as detailed above.
2. Select the part(s) you wish to add to the parts list by scrolling through the parts list or using the Find in Structure field. See Find in Structure for steps on using this field.
3. Click Add to Parts List in the part structure pane to add the parts to the parts list.
4. Parts are added to the end of the current parts list and given an autogenerated Line Number attribute. The attribute specifies the part’s position in the parts list.
*
New part list items are based on the value of the Parts List Item Type attribute set for the parts list. Change the value in the Type and Attribute Management utility. Refer to Type and Attribute Management for further information.
The following information applies when adding BOM parts to a parts list:
The Consumed column in the BOM tab for a parts list identifies whether each part in the BOM has been used in the associated parts list.
The column updates when BOM parts are added to, or removed from, the parts list.
For more information, see Associating a BOM to a Parts List.
The Quantity attributes from added BOM parts are copied to the Quantity attribute for the parts list items created. You can create further mappings for part attributes to be copied to a resulting parts list item — see Mapping Part Attributes to Parts List Item Attributes for further information.
Refer to Editing in the Items Tab for information on setting part quantities, usage conditions, and other attributes for the parts.
The Organization ID attribute defines the organization that owns the part.
This column is included in default views of the BOM tab when the Windchill preference Display > Expose Organization is set to Yes.
Settings made for parts and part usages in a BOM are copied when the BOM part is added to a parts list:
Option choice selection
Refer to Assigning Choices to Part Usages for information.
Service effectivity configuration
Refer to Managing Service Effectivity for information.
Substitute part relationships
Refer to Managing Substitute Parts for information.
Supplementary part relationships
Refer to Managing Supplementary Parts for information.
Any service effectivity and ATO settings made for BOM parts linked in a Supplementary relationship are copied when the part is added to the part list.
