Edit in Microsoft Project
You can open a Windchill plan in Microsoft Project for editing.
*
If the exported plan contains summary activities with overrides, the overrides are lost during the export process. Consequently, if the plan is imported back to Windchill, the overrides are lost in the project or program.
When editing a plan in Microsoft Project, do not create new activities with the Manually Scheduled task mode. These activities will be auto-scheduled when imported back into Windchill ProjectLink, which might create confusion. Any activities created in Microsoft Project should have the task mode set to Auto Scheduled.
1. Navigate to the Schedule table and select Actions > Edit Plan.
*
If you do not have the PTC plugin installed, you are prompted to save the plan as an .pppx or .ppp file. Instead, you must save the plan with an .xml extension. You can then open the XML file in Microsoft Project without needing the plugin.
2. When you have completed your changes, select Add-ins > Save to ProjectLink.
*
This action is only available for plans created in Windchill ProjectLink and if the PTC plugin for Microsoft Project is installed.
If you do not have the plugin installed, you must save a copy of the project as an XML file. From Windchill, complete the Import Plan action to upload your changes.
3. From the Save to ProjectLink window, select one of the following import modes:
Synchronize—Only new or modified plan elements are saved to the plan in Windchill.
Replace—The Microsoft Project plan replaces the entire existing Windchill plan, whether the plan elements are new, edited, or the same.
*
Selecting Replace also removes objects that are not supported in Microsoft Project. For example, any deliverables included in your plan are deleted.
4. Click OK.
If you receive error or warning messages, see Unsupported Import Features. You might need to refresh your browser to see the updated plan.
