Extending BOM Equivalences in Associative Structure Browsers
Within associative structure browsers, you can use an existing downstream structure in a given view, as a template for a similar structure in a different view without changing part numbers. The Extend BOM Equivalence action enables you to select downstream iterations and extend the equivalence of one or more selected nodes, including their descendants, to a new view. The new iterations are created at the specified view with equivalent links, equivalent occurrence links, and process plan associations duplicated and created in the new equivalent context.
Extending a Single BOM Equivalence
To extend the BOM equivalence of a single node:
1. In the downstream tree, select the original downstream assembly that you want to extend.
2. In the downstream structure pane toolbar click , then select Extend BOM Equivalence from the menu.
The Extend BOM Equivalence window opens.
3. In the New Object Branch panel, do the following:
a. Optionally, select an alternate view that you want to extend the BOM equivalence to.
The default is the current downstream view of the downstream tree.
b. Select a BOM type for the new iteration.
c. Optionally, select an alternate BOM for the new iteration.
4. In the New Object Definition panel, do the following:
a. Choose whether to duplicate all associated process plans and allocated parts (if any).
b. Optionally, select an alternate downstream context for the new iteration.
The default is the context of the selected object.
c. Optionally, select an alternate downstream location for the new iteration.
The default is retrieved from the Associativity > Downstream Creation > Location preference.
*
If the Location field is empty, a value must be supplied.
5. Click OK.
The new iteration is created and is ready for modification.
Extending Multiple BOM Equivalences
To extend the BOM equivalence of multiple nodes:
1. In the downstream tree, select the original downstream assemblies that you want to extend.
2. In the downstream structure pane toolbar click , then select Extend BOM Equivalence from the menu.
The Extend BOM Equivalence window opens.
3. In the New Object Branch panel, do the following:
a. Optionally, select an alternate view that you want to extend the BOM equivalences to.
The default is the current downstream view of the downstream tree.
b. Select a BOM type for the new iterations.
c. Optionally, select an alternate BOM for the new iterations.
4. In the New Object Definition panel, do the following:
a. Choose whether to duplicate all associated process plans and allocated parts (if any).
b. Optionally, select an alternate downstream context for the new iterations.
The default is the context of the selected objects, if all of the selections are the same. Otherwise, an empty value is displayed in the field.
c. Optionally, select an alternate downstream location for the new iterations.
The default is retrieved from the Associativity > Downstream Creation > Location preference if the all the selections are the same. Otherwise, an empty value is displayed in the field.
*
If the Location field is empty, a value must be supplied.
5. In the New Object Identification table, you can optionally do the following:
a. Select (click the left column checkbox) an object whose attributes yo wish to modify.
b. Click in the editable cells of the object’s table row and enter new attribute values.
c. Repeat for other objects listed in the table.
6. Click OK.
The new iterations are created and are ready for modification.
