Dual HTTP and HTTPS Protocol Systems
Although systems can be configured to allow internal users to access the system directly over HTTP while external users are accessing the system over HTTPS and using a reverse proxy, this configuration is not the primary PTC recommendation.
For sites where a Windchill environment can be accessed externally, PTC recommends that both internal and external users access the system using HTTPS and that you set up a split DNS configuration to route traffic appropriately. This configuration requires the least amount of deployment configuration and yields a consistent configuration for both internal and external users. For configuration instructions, see Split DNS with Reverse Proxy Configuration.
If you still desire a split protocol system, PTC advises that you contact your services professionals to assess the necessary configuration required to appropriately deploy this configuration in your environment.
