Windchill Directory Server Removed from Technology Stack
User Interface Location: NA
Product: Windchill
Release: 12.0.1.0 and later releases
Benefit
Reduction in infrastructure and operational cost of Windchill by simplifying the application architecture.
Additional Details
Starting with Windchill 12.0.1.0, bundling of Windchill Directory Server with Windchill is discontinued. Installation of Windchill Directory Server using PTC Solution Installer is not supported from this release.
With the change in application architecture, Windchill internal groups and organization data are now stored in the Windchill database and Info*Engine configuration data will reside in JSON files. User data will continue to be managed from a directory server in Windchill. You can choose to continue using the Windchill Directory Server LDAP from a previous release, or install a custom enterprise LDAP which is LDAP v3 compliant or Active Directory Server to manage user data before deploying Windchill 12.0.1.0 or later. The ownership and responsibility of maintaining the LDAP solution or migrating user data to any LDAP solution lies entirely with the customer.
There are new and updated screens introduced in the PTC Solution Installer (PSI) panels and Upgrade Manager panels to provide a seamless user experience when installing, updating, or upgrading Windchill with this change. The upgrade process is enhanced to include migrators, which run in the background, for migrating the groups and organization data to the database. During this migration phase, configuration values are stored in JSON files.
Tips:
None
Limitations:
Cognos is not supported when Windchill is installed with Active Directory Service (ADS).
