Checking In an Object
When you check in an object, your working copy becomes the new iteration of the object, and the previous iteration is unlocked.
You can check in an object if it meets the following criteria:
The object is checked out to you. If the object is checked in or checked out by other user, the Check In action is not available.
*
Organization administrators can check in objects checked out by others users, except in the following circumstances:
The object is in a different organization.
Another user with administrative access has the object checked out.
The object is not checked out to a project.
The object type is version controlled in Windchill. Objects, such as folders, notes, and change objects are version controlled objects and can be revised, checked out or checked in.
*
Check In, of a selected part, requires the structure contain no new child parts and all child parts must have been checked in to the Commonspace at least once.
Use the following procedure to check in an object:
1. Select Check In from the Actions menu available in one of the following locations:
Information page of an object
Toolbar on tables throughout Windchill
Right-click menu available in table rows throughout Windchill
*
You can also check in an object using the Edit action. For more information, see Editing an Object.
The Check In window opens.
2. In the Comments field, enter comments about any changes made to the object. Enter up to 2000 characters. These comments appear in the Iteration History table on the object information page.
3. Additional fields appear depending on the object type. For example, the Primary Content Source field appears when checking in a document. Enter information in the applicable fields.
4. Select the following checkboxes as appropriate:
Keep checked out after checkin – Select if you want the object to be checked out to you again after the checkin is complete. For example, if you want other users to view your recent changes, but you have additional updates to make before the object is available for checkout by others.
Publish to CAD after checkin – Select if you want to synchronize the part or part assembly with an associated CAD structure. It queues submitted CAD publishing tasks and functions uninterrupted in the background until all tasks are processed. For more information, see Publishing Mass Changes to CAD.
*
The default for the Publish to CAD after checkin checkbox is controlled by the following preference: Part Management > Publish to CAD after Check In. For more information, see Preference Management.
5. Click OK.
6. The Check In window closes and the page is refreshed and the checked out icon next to the object name no longer appears.
*
You can view the previous iterations of an object in the Version History table on the object information page.
