Recovery of Design Data
The environment variable PTC_WF_ROOT points to the cache location on the hard disk.
If you clear the cache or delete the PTC_WF_ROOT folder, then you break the link between a checked-in design and its design local directory (DLD). If you unintentionally cleared the cache or deleted the folder, then you can still recover the design data by following the instructions below.
Breaking the Link
The following steps create the scenario that presents the problem.
1. Create a schematic or board document in workspace.
2. Run advanced ECAD check in, browse to the design directory, and then click apply.
3. Let the check in process complete.
The browsed design directory is now the DLD for the checked in design. Let us refer to this directory as DLD-1.
4. Close the WWGM and manually delete the folder that PTC_WF_ROOT points to.
The link between the checked in design and its DLD is now broken or lost.
5. Relaunch the WWGM and check the DLD location for the above design.
Windchill local directory (WLD) is now shown as the new DLD because there is no connection with DLD-1.
6. Check out the design.
7. Go to DLD-1 and make some medications.
For example: Open the design file in its native toolset, delete or add some components, save the design, and then close the toolset.
*
After deleting the PTC_WF_ROOT folder, the checked in design looses its link with the initially set DLD-1 and when WWGM is relaunched WLD becomes the new DLD. Therefore, the modifications that you made are not retained with the design.
Recovering the Design Data
Since WLD is the new DLD, move the contents of this DLD to a new directory using the manage DLD option. Let us refer to this new directory as DLD-2.
1. Copy the contents of DLD-1 to DLD-2 so that both these directories have exactly same content.
2. Check in the design and open the design from Windchill to its native toolset. Observe that the modification that you made are intact.
3. Move this design to new workspace which means that DLD-2 is replaced again by WLD.
4. Use the manage DLD option to move the contents to a new directory DLD-3.
5. Compare DLD-1 with DLD-3 and verify that they are equal.
