Data Model
This topic describes the current EDA data model used to store ECAD design data within Windchill. ECAD authoring tools currently support two design data storage methodologies. Although each methodology is associated with specific design tools, they can be generically described as separable and non-separable. Separable means that the design data can be divided between schematic information and board information, while non-separable design data cannot be stored independently.
The following table shows how ECAD design data is stored in Windchill using CAD Document objects.

ECAD-Schematic
Contains the schematic design data (schematic.zip file) for a separable design which may include one or more of the following:
• secondary content
• schematic viewable
• attributes
• links to a schematic WTPart for inclusion in the product structure
ECAD-Board
Contains the board design data (board.zip file) for a separable design which may include one or more of the following:
• secondary content
• board viewable
• attributes
• links to a board WTPart for inclusion in the product structure
ECAD-Assembly

Applies only to Windchill versions 8.0 and 9.x
Contains no design data. May include one or more of the following:
• primary assembly
• attributes
* 
A variant assembly has attributes to satisfy Windchill. However, they have no meaning of their own.
• links to an assembly WTPart for creating the top-level of the product structure
* 
There can be multiple ECAD-Assemblies and corresponding product structures created to support variant ECAD designs.
ECAD-Content (file groups)
Contains any secondary content. It is referenced to any ECAD Schematic, Board, or Assembly object. It is used primarily for associating derived files (MFG, FAB, Drawings, etc.) to the CAD document object.
ECAD-Source

Contains the complete design data (DesignAll.zip file) for a non-separable ECAD authoring tool. May contain one or more of the following:
• attributes (only if they have a required constraint)
* 
Attributes have no meaning of their own.
• secondary content
ECAD-Component
* 
Applies only to Windchill versions 8.0 and 9.x
Contains no design data or secondary content. May contain one or more of the following:
• attributes (only if they have a required constraint)
* 
Attributes have no meaning of their own.
• links to a component WTPart for inclusion in the product structure.
* 
The product structure can contain reference designators and quantity information.
