Glossary
gateway
A software data bus that carries data from one repository to another.
gateway adapter
Collaborating with the gateway process controller to run process steps by the applications it fronts, the gateway adapter provides the glue to integrate disparate business logic running in separate processes to be harmonized to in an orchestrated run of a business process.
gateway administrator
A person responsible for managing the process schema and process itself, and defining the process with the constituent operations to be performed. A gateway administrator tracks how the processing jobs are progressing and intervenes to resume a failed/suspended operation with additional input. In addition, the administrator can create user groups. For example, only members added to the group named Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager have access to the Windchill Gateway for Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager.
gateway end point
A system that runs a software component belonging to the gateway.
gateway process controller
A software system which describes and controls business processes that constitute a series of steps executed on endpoints and distributed over a network.
Info*Engine
Windchill software components that make it possible to connect to and get data from a wide variety of information systems. The components also provide ways to process the data and either send it to another application or display it in a browser.
instance
Typically is used as an end item instance when referring to a single copy of a product configuration that is identified by a serial number.
job
A run of the process. The job executes by passing through various execution points. The infrastructure maintains a status of each job running and provides the owner of the job a way to manage it.
Message Oriented Middleware (MOM)
A client/server infrastructure that allows an application to be distributed over multiple platforms. This infrastructure supports asynchronous calls between the server and client applications, and its message queues provide temporary storage when the destination program is busy or disconnected.
Message Queue (MQ)
A temporary MOM message storage for calls between client and server applications when a destination program is disconnected or busy.
process
A process is an instance of the gateway schema with every operation mapped to an execution point. It consists of all the instance's referenced assemblies and parts, as well as its sequences of schedules and jobs.
process template
An abstract representation of the process. It defines different operations that ought to be performed to realize a specific objective along with different inputs that must be provided for each of the processes. This would be represented in Windchill as a template.
publish
A method by which a document's contents and metadata are transferred to a different file location for making it available to other users.
schedule
A schedule defines the recurrence pattern for a job run, and is a reusable set of instructions for creating a package and importing it into Windchill .
Windchill
An integrated suite of Product Lifecycle Management applications from PTC.
Windchill PDMLink
A PTC application that manages and controls product information/processes through the product lifecycle.
