Creating Alternate BOMs
You can create alternate BOMs using one of the following methods.
Using the Part Creation Wizard
In the Part Creation wizard, modify the BOM Type and Alternate Number fields as shown in the following figure.
Using the New Branch Action
Select the New Branch button when using the New Branch action.
• The structure is always copied from the source.
• If Windchill MPMLink explorers are used, you are given the option to open the new branch in a new explorer.
• You can duplicate equivalence links, from the upstream part.
Using the Paste With Associative BOM Links Action
The paste with associative BOM links action allows you to create an alternate BOM or BOM type, during BOM transformations.
Using the New Alternate BOM Action
Select the New Alternate BOM button when using the New Alternate BOM action. This action is similar to the New Branch action, except that it allows you to create alternates within the same view and BOM type. Using this option allows you to select an existing downstream iteration, and in the downstream structure, create a new iteration at a specific branch by changing the Alternate BOM field. This action creates a new iteration sharing the master with the selected iteration. It does not create a new master.
To create a new alternate BOM in the MAPSB select and open the context menu of a downstream object, and then click > .
Alternate BOM and BOM Type Configuration Specification Filtering
The configuration specification for Windchill MPMLink resolves iteration differences by applying the following rules in the order listed:
• Attempts to find a match using the entered view. If no match is found, the system navigates the view hierarchy to try and find one.
• Attempts to find a match using a previously filtered list of iterations, using the view only. If no match is found, the system tries to find a match using the lowest BOM in the hierarchy of BOM types. By default BOM Type hierarchy is ProductionTestingCosting. If part iterations are still not found then the system attempts to find part iterations that have an iteration of Null.
• Attempts to find a match using a previously filtered list of iterations, using the view and BOM type. The system attempts to find a match for the entered Alternate BOM. If none is found for the specified Alternate BOM, then the system tries to find a match using the lowest in the hierarchy (001, 002, 003,…)
