Creating and Updating Parts List Illustrations
These processes describe how to create and update illustrations from the Parts List Editor. They are supported for illustrations based on Creo Illustrate 4.2 graphics.
Create an Illustration
Before starting to create an illustration, decide if you want to have access to the Illustration Source object (Graphic Dynamic Document/GDD) for the illustration. By default this process hides GDDs. To make them available, specify an output folder for the current container with the preference Service Parts > Illustration Source Folder Location.
For more information, see Setting Service Preferences.
To create an illustration and add it to the parts list:
1. In the Structure tab of the Parts List Editor, select the root node of the parts list you want to illustrate.
2. From the context menu, choose Related Objects > New illustration.
You can also find the action in the Illustration dropdown menu in the Related Objects action set.
The action is available for users with Create permissions for parts list illustrations.
The New illustration dialog box opens.
For more information, see New Illustration
3. In the Set Attributes tab, define these required attributes:
Name
Location —where you want to save the new illustration
4. Click Next to move to the Set Filter tab.
Alternatively, click Finish to create the illustration with the current filter applied, and add it to the parts list.
5. In the Set Filter tab, configure the content filter you want to apply. The dialog displays the current default filter set for the Parts List Editor, if you do not make changes here.
There are two options for setting the filter:
Select a saved filter from the Saved Filters list
Define a new filter configuration based on Configuration Specification, Option Filter, Attribute Filter and Service Effectivity settings, as required
For more information, see Filtering the Display of Parts.
6. Click Finish. The illustration is created, checked in and added to the parts list.
The illustration opens in Creo Illustrate 4.2, if it is available. You can now complete work on the illustration if required, such as managing figures, animations, callouts, and so on.
For information on working with Creo Illustrate, see the Creo Illustrate Help Center.
When you save the illustration in Creo Illustrate, it is saved back to the Windchill repository.
If the Illustration Source Folder Location preference has a value for the current container, the Illustration Source object (Graphic Dynamic Document/GDD) for the illustration is output to the specified location.

The action is available for users with Update permissions for parts list illustrations.
The Update Illustration dialog box opens.

The dialog box displays the filter and navigation criteria that were applied for the current version of the illustration.
