Service Structure Editing
The Structure tab in the Service Structure Information Page contains tools for creating and modifying service structures. The tab is divided into the following sections:
The actions toolbar
The information structure or publication structure pane
The associated tabs containing information about the structure
The Actions Toolbar
The actions toolbar appears at the top of the tab. The actions in the toolbar are divided into sections called action sets. The following table covers the action sets on the toolbar.
Actions Set
Actions
Editing
Includes actions to modify the service structure. Actions include inserting new and existing information elements into the structure, removing content, editing the attributes of content, and moving content within the structure.
Check Out/In
Includes actions that reserve or release the right to modify objects. Actions include checking out, checking in, undo a checkout, and display objects in the service structure that are checked out to you or to any others.
Clipboard
Includes actions that allow you to copy information to the clipboard and paste it to a specified location.
Viewing
Includes actions that change the information displayed in a service structure.
New/Add To
Includes actions that create new objects from existing ones and actions that add selected objects in the structure to baselines, packages, or projects.
Filter
Includes actions to view and edit the filters used to display the service structure.
Publish
Includes the action to publish a representation.
Tools
Includes actions to open service structure objects in other applications.
Reports
Includes actions to create reports and export the service structure to desired file format.
Editing Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Editing action set:
Action
Description
Insert Existing
Enables you to insert existing objects into the structure. The actions that are available in the drop-down menu depends on whether you are working with an information structure or a publication structure:
Insert Existing Information Element – Opens the Insert Existing Information Element window where you can search for existing information elements to insert into the structure. For more information, see Insert Existing Information Element.
Insert Existing Group — Opens the Insert Existing Group window where you can search for existing information groups to insert into an information structure. For more information, see Insert Existing Group or Section.
Insert Existing Publication Section – Opens the Insert Existing Publication Section window where you can search for existing publication sections to insert into a publication structure. For more information, see Insert Existing Group or Section.
Insert Existing Information Structure — Opens the Insert Existing Information Structure window where you can search for existing information structures. For more information, see Insert Existing Service Structure.
Insert Existing Publication Structure – Opens the Insert Existing Publication Structure window where you can search for existing publication structures. For more information, see Insert Existing Service Structure.
Insert New
Enables you to insert new objects into the structure. The actions that are available in the menu list depends on whether you are working with an information structure or a publication structure:
Insert New Group — Opens the Insert New Group window where you can insert a new Information Group into the structure. For more information, see Insert New Group or Section.
Insert New Multiple Groups — Opens the Insert New Multiple Groups window where you can insert more than one new information group into the structure. For more information, see Insert New Multiple Groups or Sections.
Insert New Publication Section – Opens the Insert New Publication Section window where you can insert a new publication section into the structure. For more information, see Insert New Group or Section.
Insert New Multiple Publication Sections – Opens the Insert New Multiple Publication Sections window where you can insert more than one new publication section into the structure. For more information, see Insert New Multiple Groups or Sections.
Insert New Table of Contents – Inserts a new table of contents into the structure.
Insert New Textual Information Element – Creates and inserts a new textual information element into the structure. A new textual element content holder is created as a child of the selected object in the structure pane, and a new textual information element object is associated with it.

Insert New Graphic Information Element — Creates and inserts a new graphic information element into the structure. A new illustration holder is created as a child of the selected object in the structure pane, and a new publication graphic object is associated with it.
Insert New Parts List Information Element – Creates and inserts a new parts list information element into the structure. A new parts list content holder is created as a child of the selected object in the structure pane, and a new parts list object is associated with it.

Insert New Document — Creates and inserts a new document into the structure. A new document holder is created as a child of the selected object in the structure pane, and a new document is associated with it. The action is available in the shortcut menu.

Insert New Index – Inserts a new index into the structure.
Remove
Enables you to remove an object from the structure.
Edit
Enables you to change the name or the attributes for objects in the structure. The following actions are available in the drop-down menu:
Edit Attributes – Opens the Edit Attributes window where you can modify the attributes for an object. For more information, see Edit Attributes.
Rename – Opens the Rename window where you can rename an object. For more information, see Renaming an Object.
Set Multi Language — Specifies that the selected publication structure is to be published in each chosen language when Multilingual Output is selected on the Publish Representation window. Set Multi Language is available only for publications structures nested in a parent publication structure. Choosing Set Multi Language will check out the parent publication structure if it is not already checked out. For more information, see Publish Representation.
Unset Multi Language — Specifies that the selected publication structure is to be published in only the base language when Multilingual Output is selected on the Publish Representation window. Unset Multi Language is available only for publications structures nested in a parent publication structure. Choosing Unset Multi Language will check out the parent publication structure if it is not already checked out.
Move
Enables you to move an object within the structure. The following actions are available in the drop-down menu:
Move up in order — Enables you to move an object up in the structure hierarchy.
Move down in order — Enables you to move an object down in the structure hierarchy.
Move up one level — Enables you to move an object to a higher level in the structure hierarchy.
Move down one level — Enables you to move an object to a lower level in the structure hierarchy.
These choices are only available in publication structures.

Check Out/In Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Check Out/In action set:

Check Out
Enables you to check out the selected objects. For more information, see Checking Out an Object.
Check In
Enables you to check in the selected objects. For more information, see Checking In an Object.
Undo Checkout
Enables you to clear the check out of the selected objects discarding any changes that have been made. For more information, see Undoing a Checkout.
Checkouts
Enables you to find the checkouts in a structure. The following actions are available:
The My Checkouts option opens a window showing all of the objects in the structure that have been checked out to you.
The All Checkouts option opens a window showing all of the objects in the structure that have been checked out to you and to any others.
Both checkouts windows have the following actions available. Note that you can only check in objects or undo checkout for objects that have been checked out to you:
Check in – Check in the selected objects.
Undo checkout – Clear the check out of the selected objects, discarding any changes that have been made.
Compare information – Compare the selected object to other objects. For more information, see Comparing Object or Version Information.
The All Information Structure Checkouts option opens a window listing all the objects from the related information structure that have been checked out to you and to any others. This option is available only if the publication structure was generated from an information structure.

Clipboard Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Clipboard action set:

Paste
Enables you to paste information from the clipboard. The following actions are available:
Paste — Pastes the objects from the clipboard into your structure.
Paste Selection — Opens the Select parts to paste window, in which you can select the objects from the clipboard that you wish to paste into your structure.

The following are not supported:
Pasting information groups from the information structure tab into a publication structure
Pasting translated dynamic documents or XLIFFs into a service structure
Copy
Enables you to copy a selected object in the structure to the clipboard. Use the CTRL key to select multiple objects.
Use the Quick Links > Clipboard menu option to view the clipboard.
Refer to About the Clipboard for information.
Viewing Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Viewing action set:
Action
Description
Views
Enables you to change the columns displayed in the structure pane. Select a previously defined view from the list or create a new view using Manage Structure Views. For more information about creating table views, see Using Tables.
Save any changes that you have made to the current view with the Save Structure View option.
Some useful columns to display for service structures are Is Primary (for information structures), Is Template, Authoring Language, and Translation Name.
Information structures and publication structures have line numbers applied for sort order by default. You can display the Line Number column using Views > Manage Structure Views.
Display
Enables you to change how objects are displayed within the structure. The following actions are available:
Select All – Selects and highlights all parts displayed in the structure enabling you to perform other actions on the selected parts.

Objects that are not expanded and visible in the structure are not selected.
Expand All Levels — Expands all hierarchy levels for the selected object in the structure.
Expand Selected by — Expands the hierarchy by the number of levels you specify. Choose the number of levels from the menu, or choose All Levels. Specify a custom level using n Levels.
Collapse All Levels — Collapses all hierarchy levels for the selected object in the structure.
Store Ordered Structure — Stores the sorting order in an information structure if the structure has been sorted based on criteria other than line numbers. The line numbers are reset in the entire structure according to the new sorting order. This option is available only if the sortISByLineNumber property is set to true. All the nodes in the information structure are automatically checked out, checked back in, and the version number is updated.

If the parent node is checked out by another user, this action will fail with an error message indicating that the action could not be completed because there are groups checked out to other users.
Refresh — Refreshes the display of the structure preserving the current expansion state.

The top object is selected when the refresh is complete. An object selection within the structure is not retained.
New/Add To Action Set
The following actions are provided in the New/Add To action set:

Description
New
Enables you to save a structure object as a new object or to publish a representation of the structure. The following actions are available in the drop-down menu:
Save As – Opens the Commonspace Save As window, enabling you to create new objects based on the ones currently selected in the structure.
You can include dependent objects in the Save As table by changing the selection in the Dependents drop-down list to All. However, this does not include the objects associated with content holders and Publication Sections in the table. To do that, select the content holders in the table and click the Collect related CAD / Dynamic documents button in the toolbar to add the documents related to content holders to the table.
Once you have all of the dependent objects you want in the table, you can select them and use the Exclude and Reuse toolbar buttons to determine which objects to include in the new structure.
Save As Master Structure – Opens the Save as Master Structure window, enabling you to save just the outline of a structure as the basis for creating similar structures. For more information, see Saving a Service Structure as a Master Structure.
Replace with Local Copy – Opens the Commonspace Save As window, enabling you to save a local copy of the selected object. For more information, see Replace Content with a Local Copy.
New Promotion Request – Opens the New Promotion Request window, enabling you to create a promotion request for the selected objects. For information, see Creating a Promotion Request.
Add to
Enables you to add a structure object to a baseline, package, or project. The following actions are available in the drop-down menu:
Add to Baseline — Opens the Add to Baseline window, enabling you to add the most recent version of the object to a baseline. You have the option to also collect the objects related to the object.
Add to Package — Opens the Add to Package window, enabling you to add the object to a package.
Add to Project — Opens the Add Objects to a Project window, enabling you to add the object to a project. You have the option to also collect the objects related to the object. This action is only available for a publication structure.
Filter Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Filter action set:

Description
Edit Filter
Enables you to define a new structure filter. Enables you to define a new part document filter for describing and reference part documents only in Windchill Service Information Manager system. For more information, see Editing a Structure Filter, About Part Document Filters.
Current Filter
Displays the Current Filter list.
The Current Filter contains full description of applied filters. This option for part document contains the describing and reference part documents filter. Click Current Filter to see a summary of the structure filters currently applied to the structure. For more information, see Viewing a Structure’s Current Filter Properties, About Part Document Filters.
The Original Filter is available if the service structure was created from a template. For more information, see Service Structure Templates.
Saved Filters
Enables you to select a saved structure filter for use in the structure pane. The Part Documents Saved Filters action set enables you to use a saved filter for part related describing or reference documents. For more information, see About Part Document Filters. The following actions are also available in the drop-down menu:
Save – Creates a named copy of the existing filter criteria for later use. For more information, see Saving a Structure Filter.
Manage Filters – Lists the saved structure filters that are seen in the drop-down menu and shared with others. For more information, see Managing Filters in a Structure.
Variant Specifications — Enables you to filter a structure of a configurable module by applying a variant specification that was previously created for the configurable module. For more information, see Filtering a Product Structure Using a Variant Specification.
Publish Action Set
The following action is provided in the Publish action set:

Representation
Opens the Publish Representation window, enabling you to publish the selected object or structure. Published representations appear in the Representations tab. For more information, see Publishing from a Service Structure.
Tools Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Tools action set:

Open In
Enables you to open the object in another application. The following actions are available in the drop-down menu:
Open in Information Structure Editor — Opens an information structure or information group in the Structure tab on the associated information page.
Open in Publication Structure Editor — Opens a publication structure or publication section in the Structure tab on the associated information page.
Open All Topics in Arbortext Editor — Opens all XML Dynamic Documents associated with the selected object in a single temporary document in Arbortext Editor. This choice is only available for publication structures and publication sections.
Open Content in Arbortext Editor — Opens the XML Dynamic Document associated with the selected object in Arbortext Editor. This choice is only available for the objects referenced by Textual Content Holders.
Open Content in Parts List Editor — Opens the parts list associated with a parts list holder in the parts list editor. For more information about parts lists, see Windchill Service Parts Overview.
Reports Action Set
The following actions are provided in the Reports action set for Parts Lists:

Reports
Parts Lists Requiring Update—Displays a list of parts lists in the structure that may need to be updated after an update to their associated source SBOM.
Parts Lists Requiring Regeneration—Displays a list of spare part parts lists in the structure that are marked as Regenerate Required after an update to their source generic parts list (template).
For more information, see Updating Parts Lists after Changes to Source. These actions are only available when Windchill Service Parts is installed.
The following action is provided in the Reports action set for publishing to Servigistics InService:
Delivery Content Report—Displays the Delivery Content Report for managing the relationship between the service structure objects and the associated Servigistics InService. For more information, see Delivery Content Report.
Part Related Documents— Displays the Part Related Documents report for viewing part related documents based on the type of association between parts and documents. For more information, see About Part Related Documents Report.
The following action is provided in the Reports action set to view the service data objects that require an update:
Textual and Graphic Information Elements Requiring Update— Displays the Textual and Graphic Information Elements Requiring Update for a service structure. The report provides a list of service data objects for updated parts. For more information, see About Textual and Graphic Information Elements Requiring Update Report.
Export
Enables you to export service structures to CSV, HTML, PDF, Text, XLS, XLSX, XLS Report, XML and Importable Spreadsheet formats.
The Structure Pane
The structure pane shows the content of your structure in a tree hierarchy. You can open and close the content of the sections, groups, and other structures included in your structure by clicking on the small triangle to the left of that content in the structure. Above the tree hierarchy is the Find in Structure text box. You can enter search terms to locate objects in the structure. Enter one or more search terms in the box and then click the Find icon. The Next match and Previous match icons enable you to move to the matches for your search in the structure.
The type of object displayed in the structure is indicated by the following icons:

Table of Contents
Index
The name of the object is displayed next to the icon in the structure. Click on an object in the structure to select it or CTRL+click to select multiple objects.
You can reorder objects within a service structure. See Rearranging Service Structure Objects for more information.
In the pane to the right of the structure pane, you can view the attributes for the currently selected object on the Attributes tab. See Service Structure Attributes for more information.
You can view the information structure for the current publication structure in the Information Structure tab. See Information Structure Tab of the Publication Structure for more information.
You can view and manage the information elements used in the structure in the Information Element List tab. See List of Information Elements Used in Service Structures for more information.
You can view and manage attributes of parts or part subtypes associated to an object used in a service structure in the Impacted By tab. See Impacted By Tab of Service Structures for more information.
You can also use the shortcut menu to perform actions on the selected object. The actions available in the shortcut menu depend on the type of object selected.

View Information
Opens the Details tab on the information page for the selected object.
Open In
Enables you to open the object in another application. Select an application from the following menu:
Open in Information Structure Editor — Opens an information structure or information group in the Structure tab on the associated information page.
Open in Publication Structure Editor – Opens a publication structure or publication section in the Structure tab on the associated information page.
Open All Topics in Arbortext Editor – Opens all XML Dynamic Documents associated with the selected object in a single temporary document in Arbortext Editor. This choice is only available for publication structures and publication sections.
Open Content in Arbortext Editor – Opens the XML Dynamic Document associated with the selected object in Arbortext Editor. This choice is only available for objects referenced by Textual Content Holders.
Open Content in Parts List Editor – Opens the parts list associated with a Parts List Holder in the Parts List Editor. For more information about parts lists, see Windchill Service Parts Overview.
Open Content in Creo Illustrate – Opens a graphic information element based on a .c3di file in Creo Illustrate.
Insert New
Enables you to insert new objects into the structure. Select an object from the following menu:
Insert New Group — Opens the Insert New Group window where you can insert a new information group into the structure. For more information, see Insert New Group or Section.
Insert New Multiple Groups — Opens the Insert New Multiple Groups window where you can insert more than one new information group into the structure. For more information, see Insert New Multiple Groups or Sections.
Insert New Publication Section – Opens the Insert New Publication Section window where you can insert a new publication section into the structure. For more information, see Insert New Group or Section.
Insert New Multiple Publication Sections – Opens the Insert New Multiple Publication Sections window where you can insert more than one new publication section into the structure. For more information, see Insert New Multiple Groups or Sections.
Insert New Table of Contents – Inserts a new table of contents into the structure.
Insert New Textual Information Element – Creates and inserts a new textual information element into the structure. A new textual element content holder is created as a child of the selected object in the structure pane, and a new textual information element object is associated with it.

Insert Existing Publication Structure – Opens the Insert Existing Publication Structure window where you can search for existing publication structures. For more information, see Insert Existing Service Structure.
Remove
Enables you to remove an object from the structure.
Edit
Enables you to change the name or the attributes for objects in the structure. The following actions are available in the menu:
Edit Attributes – Opens the Edit Attributes window where you can modify the attributes for an object. For more information, see Edit Attributes.

Populate Structure
Enables you to populate the service structure with Information Elements based on the criteria specified in a configuration XML file. For more information, see About Auto Populating a Service Structure.
Check In
Enables you to check in the selected objects. For more information, see Checking In an Object.
Check Out
Enables you to check out the selected objects. For more information, see Checking In an Object.
Undo Checkout
Enables you to clear the check out of the selected objects discarding any changes that have been made. For more information, see Undoing a Checkout.
Copy
Enables you to copy a selected object from the structure onto the clipboard. Use the CTRL key to select multiple objects.
Use the Quick Links > Clipboard menu option to view the clipboard.
Refer to About the Clipboard for information.
Paste
Enables you to paste information from the clipboard.

Pasting information groups from the information structure tab into a publication structure
Pasting translated dynamic documents or XLIFFs into a service structure
Expand Selected by
Expands the hierarchy by the number of levels you specify. Choose the number of levels from the menu, or choose All Levels. Specify a custom level using n Levels.
New
Enables you to save objects in the structure as new objects. The following actions are available in the menu:
Save As – Opens the Commonspace Save As window, enabling you to create new objects based on the ones currently selected in the structure.
You can include dependent objects in the Save As table by changing the selection in the Dependents drop-down list to All. However, this does not include the objects associated with content holders and publication sections in the table. To do that, select the content holders in the table and click the Collect related CAD / Dynamic documents button in the toolbar to add the documents related to content holders to the table.

Add To

Add to Package — Opens the Add to Package window, enabling you to add the object to a package.

Publish Representation
Opens the Publish Representation window, enabling you to publish the selected object or structure. For more information, see Publishing from a Service Structure.
Generate Publication Structure
Opens the Create New Publication Structure window, allowing you to generate a publication structure from an information structure.
For more information, see Generating a Publication Structure.
Generate Translation Document
Generates an XLIFF document for the currently selected structure, group, or section in the service structure. For more information, see Generate a Translation Document for a Structure.
Manage Applicability
Opens the Manage Applicability window, enabling you to assign option choices and service effectivity values to the selected objects.
This choice is only available when the object is checked out and an option set has been assigned to the product enabling assigning of choices to items. For more information, see Manage Applicability, Assigning Choices to Service Structure Objects, and Managing Service Effectivity.
Manage Notifications
Opens the Manage Notifications window, enabling you to subscribe to parts and receive an email notification when a subscribed part is updated. This action is available only from the root of a service structure. For more information, see Managing Notifications to Modify Service Data Based on Part Updates.
Assign Symptom
Opens the Assign Symptom window, enabling you to assign symptoms to the selected objects. This option is available for Textual Content Holders only.
Regenerate
Regenerates the service structure from its origin, provided it was generated from a template or from another structure.
A publication structure is regenerated according to its original method of creation, which could be from the information structure using Generate Publication Structure or from the template selected when the publication structure was created using Create New Publication Structure.
An information structure is regenerated from the Template selected when the information structure was created using Create New Information Structure.
Delivery Content Report
Displays the Delivery Content Report for managing the relationship between the service structure objects and the associated Servigistics InService. For more information, see Delivery Content Report.
Impact Analysis Report
Displays the Impact Analysis Report for impacted objects in relation to a selected part. For more information, see About Impact Analysis Report.
The Tabs Displayed in the Right Pane
This pane contains the following tabs:
Information Structure – Displays the information structure for the current context when working with a publication structure. You can choose which of the Information Structures associated with the current product to display.
You can insert content from the information structure into your publication structure. For more information, see Information Structure Tab of the Publication Structure.
Attributes – Displays the attributes for the object selected in the structure.
If the selected object is a content holder, the attributes for the associated object are also displayed. For more information, see Service Structure Attributes.
Information Element List – Allows you to view and manage the information elements used in the selected structure, section or group. For more information about the information element list displayed in this tab, see List of Information Elements Used in Service Structures.
Impacted By – Allows you to view information about any part or part subtype that is associated with a selected object in a service structure. For more information about the impacted by tab, see Impacted By Tab of Service Structures.
