Editing Common Part Attributes for Parts List Items
Common attributes apply to all versions (all revisions and associated iterations) of a part. They are not restricted just to the usage of the part in a parts list. The Edit Common Attributes action is used to modify common attributes for all part versions.
To edit common part attributes for a parts list item, select the item in the parts list structure and select the Edit > Edit Common Attributes option from either the Structure tab toolbar or the context menu.
A checkout is not required to edit common attributes. All attributes are required and will have assigned values.
The following fields appear in the Edit Common Attributes window for a parts list item, depending upon the part type and your preference settings:
Field
Description
Name
The text identifier for the part. Does not have to be unique.
Number
The unique numeric identifier for the part. This attribute may be automatically supplied by a standard part number generator when parts are created in your system. Numbers may also be transferred from CAD data when parts are created by a check in operation from a CAD workgroup manager.
Organization ID
The globally unique organization identifier associated with the part. Depending on preference settings at your site, this field may not appear. This attribute is labeled CAGE Code when Windchill Aerospace and Defense is installed.
*
The Expose Organization preference must be set to Yes for Organization ID or CAGE Code to appear.
Default Trace Code
Indicates whether manufactured copies of a part will be traceable by a serial or lot number. The following options are available:
Lot — The system tracks the individual manufactured copies of the given part by its lot number. It is assumed that all physical parts in the lot are identical since they are created in the same manufacturing run.
Lot/Serial Number — The system tracks the individual manufactured copies of the given part by its lot and serial number. It is assumed that all instances in the lot are identical since they are created in the same manufacturing run. However, unlike lot number tracking, the enterprise assigns an individual serial number to the part as well as a lot number.
Serial Number — The system tracks individual manufactured copies of the given part with a serial number.
Untraced — The system does not track individual manufactured copies of the given part.
Default Unit
Identifies the unit of measurement applied to the quantity of a part used by an assembly. Values include each and as needed along with a number of volume, length, and weight choices in the English or metric system.
End Item
Identifies the top assembly part in a product structure that is manufactured and delivered to customers. The End Item attribute is set to Yes or No.
Gathering Part
When set to Yes, this attribute identifies a part that is not manufactured but is created to facilitate CAD design. Phantom CAD parts are not shown in product structure reports. Children of a Phantom CAD part are rolled up to the next higher assembly where the attribute is set to No.
Service Kit
Identifies a part as a service kit.
A service kit can include individual parts that make up the kit.
Serviceable
Indicates whether the part can be serviced.
