About Classic Project or Program Execution
After you complete the planning of a project or program, you are ready to execute it. The execution option you select determines the assigning and delivering of tasks related to activities and deliverables to team members in order to complete the work. There are three options:
Manually control project execution -- Allows you to control every aspect of the execution. You manually execute the activities when they are ready to begin, and create and assign tasks to the team members associated with the activities. No project or program management tasks are created.
Automatically execute activities -- The system automatically executes and manages activities that are created. You manually create and assign tasks to team members associated with the activities. No project or program management tasks are created.
Automatically execute activities and deliver tasks -- The system automatically executes and manages activities. It also creates tasks for activities and delivers e-mail notification concerning created tasks to the associated resources.
The system behavior during execution and edit depends on two factors:
Whether or not you are reporting effort or cost.
Whether or not you are manually or automatically executing the project or program. For more information about execution options, see the Windchill ProjectLink User's Guide.
Reporting Effort and Cost
If you need to report effort or cost, select the check box to track cost in step 4 while creating a project or on step 5 while editing a project. When the track cost option is enabled, the activity create and edit windows include fields in which to enter values for effort for the resources associated with the activity. The actual cost for activities is calculated by the product of the actual effort (hours) for the activity and the rate per hour for the resource assigned to the activity as well as the one-time cost per use for each resource used in the activity. When in cost tracking mode, only estimated and actual effort is entered. The cost and percentage complete is calculated based on the estimated and actual effort values entered. The percentage complete can also be directly entered, in which case the actual work field is cleared.
If you are not reporting effort, you can directly edit the percentage complete for the activity (the field for entering resource effort (hours) is not displayed).
